Because it's connected to the .... it's needs a space between the periods and the emoticon. Same thing happens to links of you don't space them, they won't link.

She can edit it to add the space to fix it.

I repaired them. It was not a space issue, she was dragging and dropping them into her post.

Ahhh, yes, I have seen that once but a very long time ago so forgot about it.
