No it can be just about anything as long as it lets light pass through and allows oxygen!

Well, I figure I have time to find the right home for it, because it has yet to become a chrysalis and it seems like during that time would be a good time to move it.

He is getting so big! And sitting on his stick -- maybe I should put more fresh parsley in, what I put in this morning is wilted and he's not eating it....

Kyla can you post a photo of your cat sitting on his stick?

Hard to get a good angle. He moved when I put some fresh parsley in a few hours ago but hasn't moved since.

Ha! I guess he woke up from his nap and was hungry. He was starting to try to get to the parsley so I got him another piece and put it close by and he practically jumped onto it!

It looks now like he's trying to get out. I think I need to leave him alone for a while instead of taking more pictures.

Sad

Okay, I feel much better. I found a bigger container, and covered it with an old bandana so plenty of air.

He is definitely getting ready to pupate; there was a liquid mess in the bottom of the old jar. He now has two, fresh sticks, parsley, and plenty of room. He will be able to fly out easily once it's time.

He is exploring his new digs, and hasn't chosen his spot yet. But he's looking, I feel sure.

okay, the runny intestinal dump is a good sign. Thumbs up The wandering is typical for when they're trying to find a place to pupate. It's like they're programmed to travel at that point. Too bad he can only travel around inside a jar! Whistling In the photo, he's not yet in preputation position, but I expect he'll get there sometime in the next couple of days. He'll eat less. Once he's chosen his pupation spot, he'll sit there very still for a few days, and he'll weave himself some points to hang from.

Exciting! Hurray!

My first Monarch chrysalis is turning dark, so he/she should eclose in the next day or so. woohoo!

The caterpillar is hanging from his stick. I put a little sprig of fresh parsley in but I don't think he'll even notice it.

Okay, here's some peechurs of garden stuff.

First, some recent ones of Little Rock:

Thumb of 2014-09-16/kylaluaz/938e53 Thumb of 2014-09-16/kylaluaz/18a813

Little Rock is very hard to photograph because it is so tiny and narrow and there is not really a good way to get all of it without getting a lot of other stuff in there, like a lot of brick wall. Sticking tongue out

Thumb of 2014-09-16/kylaluaz/ff9905

The little fence had to be added because the dear lawn guys kept messing it up. It's still a delicate installation, is Little Rock.

And here is that chamomile I divided into three clumps from an underdeveloped four inch pot! Doing pretty well, I'd say. I planted some thyme in between two of the clumps too.

Happy to see the cat in pupation position! Looks like you'll have a chrysalis soon! Smiling
