I'm sorry to see that, Yardenman. How disappointing!

Daffodils are chuckling at me. The ones in bloom outside are totally unfazed by the cold nights.
Plant it and they will come.

Most of the daffodils outside are fine, but a dozen or so did "face plants" because the stems couldn't support the blooms. I think the cold weather was to blame, so I cut some more to bring in. The scent is very potent inside.

Mine don't have any scent I can smell, but they're pretty in here instead of way out by the edge of the freezing cold yard where no one will see them.

Me too, lovesplants- I have liked being greeted by daffs in the kitchen when I come in the door, and with work hours and cold, I wouldn't have really seen them as much outside Thumbs up

face planted lol
Plant it and they will come.

I like the smell of daffs, too, but it became overpowering when I had 2 dozen in the kitchen, so I had to separate them.

My earlier daffs are mostly not fragrant... but the sweet smelling ones are budding up! My nose esp loves the double and butterfly daffs...

David, while I didn't try it on the apricot, I'm thinking running a misty spray might help garden plants during a freeze too... I'd never thought of that, although i often prevent frost damage by spraying foliage early in the morning before the sun hits the leaves.

I'm running out of room inside! There are just so many places I can put pots! I don't think things like the newly potted fern or lily of the valley will be affected as they're not up yet. But the new hosta and bleeding heart that were just put into pots today? I'm not so sure they would make it as they've been inside a warm warehouse since fall.

We had April in February, now we are having February in March. Wonder what month we will have in April? Seems like the calendar came apart and fell to the floor. God picked up the pages, stacked them out of order, and rehung on the wall. Confused

The snow doesn't bother quite as much as the temps. They're calling for 21° on Tuesday, 16° on Wednesday and 12° on Thursday. If we do get a lot of rain on Monday, those sub-freezing temps are going to do some damage to the stuff getting ready to break through the surface.

as of Monday night, a blanket of snow is expected and should help the plants.
I'm almost out of bird seed and this is probably the time they'll be in critical need. I think this will be more dangerous for the birds than emerging plants at ground level.
Plant it and they will come.

I basically stopped putting out seed. The squirrel were consuming almost all of it. And don't even think I care about the squirrels surviving. Unless they're going to sit out in the open when the hawks come by, I have absolutely no use for those freakin' tree rats.

I don't feed the squirrels either. When I use strictly millet and safflower, the squirrels leave it alone.
I bought sunflower stripers hoping to see blue jays, but not a one. I just know if I put that out, the squirrel will be parked in it until it's all gone.
Plant it and they will come.

What do you think my odds are of being able to drive to Philadelphia on Wednesday? There is a book signing for my favorite writer Wednesday evening, already have my hotel reservation.
