When I was on my road trip I picked up little pebbles on the beach in Crescent City and then took them back to my hotel room for washing/drying. Then I used a paint pen to write words of encouragement and hope on them.

I had fun placing all the pebbles all over the western coast at beaches, in gardens I visited along the walks I took, on the wharf.

Now I am looking for more pebbles so I can continue doing this everywhere I go, even in the Land of Hot where I live (Phoenix, AZ). I used to paint larger river rocks and put people's names on them, placing them in my garden to see when I watered and weeded. I'd say a little prayer for each person.

How have you used pebbles?

Very nice! I love the smooth rock from Cape Cod and other beaches. When I drive and don't fly to visit my daughter I try to bring back a bucket full.
Now I just need to get them painted.

I bought some polished rocks and interestingly my same paint pens will not stay put. So they rocks must be natural ones.

I have seen those in craft stores. Hmm, it must be because of the shiny finish. I want to do some that says MOM's GARDEN

That is cute. I do write plant names on pebbles when I plant bulbs in the garden so I do not spade them when I dig. and plant in the Spring.

I found some paint pens on sale for 1.00 at the hardware store that they were discontinuing. They work great.

I want to paint the names of some of my daylilies on rocks (just the special ones that were bought to commemorate family members). Would you recommend the paint pens or something else?

I like the Sharpie water based paint pen in Extra Fine. I have not tested them outdoors over a long period of time though. If you have a steady hand, using acrylic patio paint will work too.

I have so many Fall/cold weather projects on my agenda but I want to add this too. A pen would make it so much faster than a brush!

I think adding something like Psalms 23 with a little sheep would be cute by my daylilies with names like The King is Coming or Rock of My Salvation.

I love that Teresa! And you're right: paint pens are easier and actually prettier.

I do reasonably well with a brush, but I'd probably sketch it out in pencil first. Just not sure what kind of paint to use on rocks.

Woofie, buy Acrylic patio paint found at all craft stores OR you can try any acrylic paint. Personally I use the FOLK ART brand because it is nice and thick. It is not patio paint but should still do fine.

I do seal everything small with a craft varnish by Delta Ceramcoat. For outdoor murals and designs, I use exterior paints and do not seal.
