Whoa, you are rockin' the polka dots these days, Jim. Both lovely.

I have a new NOID open today, a first bloom on a rescue at least a year ago from Lowe's. Flowers aside, I'm pretty impressed with the root growth it's putting out the holes in the silly little ceramic pot. Another one I'll be tempted to just put into a slat basket when the time comes.

Hey Jim, are you going to take the morning off your Extension office duties to come down for the Tropiflora Fall Festival? It is 2 weeks from tomorrow, Oct. 3rd (also Oct. 4th and 5th, Sat. & Sun. but the selection is better on Friday).

Plantio folks always have a big display there, and some great bargains on divisions. I got my start of David Sander from them as a div for $10.

You know, I just may do that. I want to stop at the earth box place and perhaps my Palm lady as well. Maybe Melanie wants to ride along? What time do they open? Also, do you know of a good place for lunch?

Jim, I just love both Spotties, really nice!
Elaine, happy looking Noid! I don'think I have ever seen nice stuff like that at our Lowe's around here!

Tropiflora! Is that the Russian Nursery, which has all sorts of wonderful plants? I bought a Murraya koeniggii from them many years ago, which is now a very large plant in tree form and needs to come inside soon. Making Curry anyone?

Hilarious! Russian? Don't think so, the owners @ 30yr. are Dennis and Linda Cathcart, about as American as they come. Yes, fabulous, unusual plants but they are specialists in bromeliads - two huge shade houses full, plus another full of fabulous tillandsias.

Jim the card they sent me says Friday & Saturday 8am to 5pm, Sunday 10am to 3pm. They have barbecue there for lunch, and I highly recommend it if you like barbecue. Otherwise, I'm in the dark, it's a long way out of my usual stomping (and chomping) grounds. Except, come to think about it, on the NE corner of Tuttle and University there is a Panera Bread that we really like.

Let me know if you're coming and I'll meet you there and do lunch for sure!

Ahh, I mixed them up with Toptropical!
And I have bought stuff from Tropiflora years ago too, I remember them as Cargo Report. They always had some interesting plants - Pachypodiums! Smiling

You know, I would love to see what else you have growing there! Would you mind giving us a bit of a tour? We have a thread for our gardens

and also a thread for our house plants right here on the orchid forum.

Magnificent, Glen, and lookit those thorns! Almost as tall as the magnificent daylilies next to it there.

Yes, Tropiflora has pachy's and lots of adeniums too. They have an 'arrangement' of some sort with a fantastic orchid grower, nice couple from Venezuela, Plantio la Orquidea. Not sure if they rent greenhouse space to them or just share a driveway or what, but it seems to be a co-operative effort. Aside from the fellow down the street from me who went out of business a few years ago, I have bought the majority of my orchids from Plantio. Very interesting stuff, and always lots of Brassavola and Rhyn. crosses which are my favorites.
Noid has one open all the way, the rest are coming. Luke has one to go, and Big Jim in his glory.

I had a Madagascar Palm for a couple of years but a frosty night took it out. They are really tender to cold. Same thing happened to my screw pine. What a shame as I loved that thing. Crying

Nice trio you have there, Elaine. Big Jim is off the charts.

As far as I know now, I'll be heading your way for the Friday sale. I've called my palm lady but no reply yet. You're on for lunch and eating right there is a good option. No word from Melanie yet.

I am trying hard to save my Screw Pine too Jim. Crying I think the leaf-hopper has won.

It's a real beauty, Glen. Love the nice markings in the lip. That's a gorgeous big specimen plant you're growing there, too!

Good morning. I woke up a bit early today. My power walk needs a little light. Smiling So I thought I'd check to see what's going on here since an ATP email sat in my mailbox. I see the same old (or young) folks posting away as usual. Nice plants all a round. Just wondering if anybody is into grammatophyllums here. I'm actively searching to get all 13 species into my possession. Everybody typically has Grammatophyllum scriptum var. citrinum but then the search goes fairly dry. I have a few others and have growers in SE Asia, especially Malaysia, looking to bring whatever they find to Redlands. I'm also looking for more brassias. My new GH is finally providing a proper home for these plants and they are waking up and doing well but next year should be proof of the pudding. The cats are also coming into their own now that they are out of the constant rain. Let me see what's cooking right now but I won't bore you with too many orchid pictures as you see them all yourself.
