I used pots because I had used up all my in ground veggie space. What I found out is that some veggies do much better in pots than others do. For instance summer squash did much better in ground than in pots but eggplants did much better in pots than in ground. Go figgure!

I had a couple extra egg plants and put them in a container this year, and yes, they did much better then the ones in the ground. I wonder why that is? I even planted them about a week after I had planted the others in the garden, and they caught up and surpassed the others. I think I will do all my egg plants in container next year.

Tom, my guess would be that the soil was warmer in the containers than in the ground. I've found that peppers grow well in containers for me, too -- unlike tomatoes, which I've never had much success with growing in pots (other than small "patio" types).

I use lots of containers also for veggies. I use the side of the arbor my swing is in to grow cucumbers (can't waste space, right?)

Have to see if I can find my photos. Love the cucumbers on the swing....they provide great shade from the western sun in late afternoon when we're sitting in the swing

I guess the worker we got out here to brace up the garden cage has never seen frost cloth, and didnt realize i was trying to protect plants when he put all his equipment on top. Broke off most of the eggplant and pepper plant branches
