Spacecoast Ruffles is a stunner too! Enjoy your lovely sunshine, it is freezing here. We haven't had a cold spell like this for a long time. I played tennis this morning in sunshine but a raw easterly wind. I had a lot of layers on I can tell you! The golf on Tuesday was interesting, I nearly drove the 1st green (320 yards) as the ball was bouncing and running like crazy on the frozen ground. They should never have opened the course.

Della - I would love to see some of your daylily blooms!

Hilary - Welcome to ATP! I can't imagine playing tennis or golfing when it is that cold outside! Brrrr .... it's warm here in Florida (in the USA). We are very lucky to have very mild winters and can grow most plants year round.

I've found this pic from early in the season:

Thumb of 2015-02-07/dellac/c2156f

Methinks it is Gerda Brooker. I also have Ornamental Focus somewhere nearby (all my daylilies, few as they are when it comes to named varieties, have recently suffered being moved, as have I!...and we have all lost our marbles - I mean labels!), but only one of the two flowered. If this is GB then I'm still waiting to see Ornamental Focus put on a good show. Maybe next year.

My first thought was Paper Butterfly, but now I see that PB is a parent of Gerda Brooker. I love the way the petals curl in the throat. One thing is for sure, if you can't identify one, there are plenty of pictures in the database and lots of folks here to help!

Thanks Vickie. I've never had Paper Butterfly. I like that feature though too. Must be Gerda. Smiling

I see you have posted lots of Emma Tomlinson McHugh and Beautiful Edgings, Glen. I have these two too and they have been my favourites this season. I absolutely love them both and they have produced lots of flowers. I thought I had alot of pics too, especially of Beautiful Edgings, but seems I must have taken most of them in my mind!

I thought of Paper Butterfly too when I saw your first photo. Looking at all of the photos, you certainly have some beauties to brag about! I share your taste in bloom characteristics! Lovely!!! Lovey dubby

Thanks for the welcome, Becky. It has been below freezing here most of the time for the last 2 weeks with some snow which has still not completely gone. It is rural here, 10 miles away in the city of Plymouth where my Dad lives is milder. I actually love having a cold spell in the winter/early spring, I think it kills off bugs (human & plant). I have some daylily seedlings in the greenhouse which were not big enough to put in the ground, they are doing ok. The ones planted in my seedling patch in the fall all seem to be surviving though the freeze has shrunk the soil around them.

I particularly love seeing the dormant ones coming through, it reminds me that spring is just a month or two away.

I feel lucky that summer seems to have finally come to Tasmania. It has been so damp and clouded over this season! My first daylily, Betty Warren Woods, made it out early November. Here she is on November 15th:

Thumb of 2015-02-08/dellac/9fac51

And here she is today, first rebloom:

Thumb of 2015-02-08/dellac/4887c2... but doesn't seem to want to open properly. I think it's quite a feat that she's flowered again at all - the soil is so dry and poor in that spot. I'll move her when she's done and give her a better spot to see how well does.

Another photo from today; a seedling grown from lily auction seed. I can't remember the cross and it's too dark to go look! Obviously didn't impress me too much, but I do like that the throat is so green and the flowers open easily. Two factors not to take for granted, I've discovered! Hilarious! And I liked this photo for the bumblebee. Green Grin!

Thumb of 2015-02-08/dellac/17ff41

I really do love the creamy/pink colour combos, and I tried Fancy Border too. Sadly it didn't produce many flowers and was a whole lot more reluctant to open easily than either BE or ETMcH, maybe next year it will hit its stride:

O wow, I have missed alot. Glen back and seeming happy and healthy, Della with some great flowers for the eye to behold, and a new friend Hilary to top off. Hurray!

Was warm here yesterday, tried to go out and line the daylily pots up in some sort of order. Today I will get the pots ready for the new arrivals and start watering them every day to get the mix settled, so the plants wont pull down so much. Actually Whistling , today I will probably just walk around the yard an enjoy the sun, lament over all the work I should be doing, and that needs to be done. I will then come in and call it a productive day nodding

O dear, I missed Donald as well, I must have been in Melbourne toooooooooo long. Funny that Glen and I both have to go to Melbourne to see our mothers.....its just that they are a world apart. Sure wish we could switch off sometime and I could check out the 'other' Melbourne.

My dayliles are coming back after I sprayed the bush killer on them ( not sure where I posted I did that Grumbling ). I cut all the leaves off of all of them and just watered watered watered. The weeds around them died, altho maybe a bit stunted, I didnt looses any Blinking

Della - Beautiful blooms (and reblooms)! I, too, really love the creamy/pink colour combos! Yours are gorgeous!

Pam - LOL about your productive day! I like those kind of days when I can just walk around and enjoy it, instead of working so much in the yard. I need to do that more often! LOL! I also need to appreciate what I have already done and not be so critical of what still needs to be done. The yard will never be finished because it is constantly changing! I need to stop and smell the roses more often (as they say)!

That is interesting that you and David both have family living in Melbourne, FL. That is where I grew up. My oldest son, his wife, and my two youngest granddaughters live there. It has sure changed a lot since I was a kid. Too much traffic for me now, which is why I moved south to Sebastian. LOL! Glad to hear that you were both able to spend some time with your mothers. Mine passed away several years ago and I still miss her! She lived in Melbourne for almost 40 years in the house I grew up in! That is my home town! Thumbs up

Well, Pam, I'm not in the southern hemisphere or cool, humid U.K. It's the hot, arid and windy climate of my bit of Texas for me.

I laughed when I read your post. I'm always complaining that if I only had decent weather I'd accomplish more chores, but there have been countless times when such weather came around and all I did was enjoy the weather! I need to move around some of the big clay patio pots. There is new growth poking up through the winter killed foliage from last year and I'd like for those fans to grow where they are going to reside for the growing season.

Those so beautiful it almost hurts days are made for walking around enjoying. The breeze blowing, the fresh scent of spring air, sunshine warming your shoulders & not a drop of sweat in sight. Those kind of days should be quite simply enjoyed. Big Grin

Becky, you have good taste! Green Grin! Debra, what is the tree you posted? Looks intriguing.

More lovely colours; this came from Hemlady's seed. Ruffles a la Mode x Euro-Mazing:

Thumb of 2015-02-09/dellac/b003c2

But sadly the plant is going to turn up its toes. Sad I saved the pollen (because I'd love to see these colours on a nice big cascading flower)... but why do so many seedlings just put energy into one flower scape and no vegetative growth? Maybe I've treated them terribly....

Two more that flowered earlier in the season and promptly died:

And another one I went a bit silly trying to get a nice photo of:

Hemlady, this one was yours too. Crying NP x PS. Navajo Princess x ... I can't remember what PS stood for. *Blush*

In the garden Wedding Band finally flowered yesterday, but not looking its best?
