Thanks Arlene. Smiling Yes, I keep looking at that one but it's rather pricey with shipping. I want to locate a whole bag or three of corms! Hilarious!

It seems to be a very popular one so I guess ordering early is the surest way to get them.

Good morning everyone.
Such great help.
Chelle I was hoping the growing crocosmias would cover the dying Poppies, didnt want them blooming companions ,sorry for the grammar error.

I will make a note about the Phlox,I already plan crocosmia for the agastache next to the house on the south side.
About winter protection when planting. Judith sends the bulbs in spring so they get a good start the first year. I will be sure to put them where they wont get moved. I am not digging many holes these days.

Pirl, I like that short yellow one,but as chelle said its pricy.

Very good to know, Julia. Thanks! I tip my hat to you.

For some strange reason, every time they came up in a search I thought they were based outside the US. *Blush*

They have an incredible selection!

Chelle, if you already have the yellow one couldn't you save seeds from them? Also don't they multiply quite quickly? Maybe they would be pricey to begin with but in the long run be worth it.

I saved seeds from it; planted some and shared some, but no germination yet here, and I haven't heard back from anyone else.

I could split them up, but I'm too chicken to do the whole clump. *Blush* I might do what I did last year and just dig a few away from an edge, then instead of sharing them out, plant them myself. I can't recall what the baby corm situation was like last year but they'd probably multiply quicker if I separated them. I really just don't know when is the best time, nor how to do it properly. I hesitate to be too experimental because these are somewhat expensive to replace, especially when they're doing so well as they are.

Well, since they are related to Gladiolus, I would think you could dig some corms after frost and hold them over winter to be planted in the spring. Or you could wait until spring and separate some of the smaller ones out to move. I don't really know for sure that's just my guess.

Maybe this will help. I believe the people answering the questions (at the bottom) were part of DG long ago:

Heh-heh ...it took me a while to toss that info around and figure it out. I'm taking it to mean that the original corms can be replanted directly in the ground, but the new ones might not be strong enough to winter over in that manner, so they should be kept cool/cold but above freezing until springtime.

That helps. Thanks Arlene.

When I had to move some I didn't do the research first and still ended up with more than I needed. It is a beautiful sight when they bloom.

Its funny how plants work out. When we bought this house in '07 there were crocosmias Lucifer under the front windopws. They looked so sad with that neglected garden. I moved them to tha back 40.
I have ordered a different red for the same front garden spot now.

It's my understanding these crocosmias were bred to be hardier, more like Lucifer. I'm trying some in the spring, also..

Don't order any from England. Barb, over on Cubits got in all sorts of trouble trying to import them. Ended up with a fine, and plants confiscated.

I just had a thought. How about over-planting lilies with crocosmia? The crocosmia here gets started late in the season, but bloom several weeks after my latest lily, and those big leaves might help to camouflage the spent lily stalks.
I'm all ears!

That might work except my lilies only get cut back by 1/3 rd after bloom. It sure is something to think about though.

I'm re-doing a bed that has both in it right now. I think I'll do a mock-up and see what it looks like. Then I can practice separating the corms of the crocosmia that I'll already have pulled for the visual test.
