There used to be a Mimosa tree in my yard. Someone prior to me had it removed. I think I've seen little starts popping up here and there. I potted one up to see what would happen. It's growing. I planted it in my lawn and it continues to grow. Looks like a Mimosa. Then I started thinking maybe it wasn't Mimosa and maybe it was what someone once told me was a weed. So today I went to Summer Winds with a piece of the "tree" to compare it to their Mimosas. They had three at $80 each and about 10 ft tall, no canopy yet. Two with dark leaves and one with lighter leaves. I took a leaf cluster from two of the trees one the light, one the dark. The lighter leaf looks like my weed. So... I had left the leaf from my "weed" in the car by accident. I take the two leaf clusters from their trees to the "tree guy" and tell him my tale. He looks at the lighter leaf and says "yes, this is a weed".. thinking it's my sample that I left in the car. I say, "no I took this from your tree out back".... kind of funny. I still hope that what I'm watering is a Mimosa. Pic here is of my neighbor's Mimosa that is about 2 yrs old.

I love my SummerWinds at Tatum, the guy was trying to be helpful but not educated in the topic (obviously) Hilarious!

... unless of course they are selling weeds for $80 AND I am watering a weed!

Brittany, I'm just hoping that what I have isn't a weed. Thought I'd take another leaf sample to Berridge's for a "second opinion".

Love the look of your Mimosa, Alan. Love the canopy. I've seen my neighbor's lawn under her Mim.... she's not happy about the mess but says the pretty fleurs are worth it!

As much as I adore green lawns...when I buy a place after graduation (or lottery win) I am having only flowerbeds and tree rings...no grass. Lots of used brick and shade trees that are semi-tidy.

I think it was judyb who planted a chocolate couple years ago. I think she said she had to remove it for bad performance.
