Dear Charleen, I spoke to Muriel today and she is fine! Unfortunately she cannot get on the internet as the rioters have damaged the main British Telecoms computers. B.T. are trying to fix it so we are but hoping they can.
All police leave in London was cancelled, and today all Police leave in the whole of the UK has been cancelled. The Police have the right now to use rubber bullets on these thugs, pity they are only rubber!
Armored cars (like a tank, but with wheels), have been brought in as well as water cannons.
The rioters complain they cannot get jobs, so they have looted and burnt down the main Sony electronics distribution center, thereby putting a lot of people out of work, it does not make any sense to me.
I managed to get to the shops today and get some groceries for my neighbours. Just stuff like milk and for the lady that grows the orchids some cat food etc.
It is alright in the day time, but as night falls there is an eerie silence as the traffic vanishes, then you get the sound of constant Police sirens all night long and nobody can sleep for the noise, and fear of attack.
The great British Blitz and Bulldog spirit is fighting back though, for in a lot of areas the residents have taken matters into there own hands as the Police cannot cope. In one pub they are so sick of the youngsters trying to raid it as they have been, they were met by over 40 scaffolders, who you do not mess with, as they carry huge steel tubes everyday. Plus a lot of other people in the pub, as well. Suddenly these teenagers are not so hard as they think when someone teaches them a quick lesson in manners, so to speak. Which there parents should have done in the first place.
Anyway I made some cottage pies and took some to my neighbours today and they were delighted with them. I know it is not fine dining, but to them it is! Although I got told off for making them too big! They claim when you get older you do not eat so much as you used to, never mind it will maybe do them for lunch tomorrow as well. The elderly people around here remember the war and they waste nothing! Pity the youngsters remembered why they are here now, because of that elderly generation. At least my neighbours are sorted now, and hopefully if we get a quiet night which at the moment does not sound like it, I can do bits for them and my mother in the morning.
No gardening at the moment, just staying out of the way is the main thing!
Regards and thanks to all of you.
Love.a sad Neil.
