Oh my goodness, Neil and family, this is so sad. I can't imagine how scary it must be. I was just watching some of it on the news... so much damage. Please stay safe, all of you. You're in our thoughts and prayers. Tony's son Edward is still living there...

I haven't seen any reports of trouble in Lincolnshire. Mainly big cities so Muriel is probably safe.

I usually hear from her a couple times...a day. That is why I worry...

Dear Charleen, I spoke to Muriel today and she is fine! Unfortunately she cannot get on the internet as the rioters have damaged the main British Telecoms computers. B.T. are trying to fix it so we are but hoping they can.
All police leave in London was cancelled, and today all Police leave in the whole of the UK has been cancelled. The Police have the right now to use rubber bullets on these thugs, pity they are only rubber!
Armored cars (like a tank, but with wheels), have been brought in as well as water cannons.
The rioters complain they cannot get jobs, so they have looted and burnt down the main Sony electronics distribution center, thereby putting a lot of people out of work, it does not make any sense to me.
I managed to get to the shops today and get some groceries for my neighbours. Just stuff like milk and for the lady that grows the orchids some cat food etc.
It is alright in the day time, but as night falls there is an eerie silence as the traffic vanishes, then you get the sound of constant Police sirens all night long and nobody can sleep for the noise, and fear of attack.
The great British Blitz and Bulldog spirit is fighting back though, for in a lot of areas the residents have taken matters into there own hands as the Police cannot cope. In one pub they are so sick of the youngsters trying to raid it as they have been, they were met by over 40 scaffolders, who you do not mess with, as they carry huge steel tubes everyday. Plus a lot of other people in the pub, as well. Suddenly these teenagers are not so hard as they think when someone teaches them a quick lesson in manners, so to speak. Which there parents should have done in the first place.
Anyway I made some cottage pies and took some to my neighbours today and they were delighted with them. I know it is not fine dining, but to them it is! Although I got told off for making them too big! They claim when you get older you do not eat so much as you used to, never mind it will maybe do them for lunch tomorrow as well. The elderly people around here remember the war and they waste nothing! Pity the youngsters remembered why they are here now, because of that elderly generation. At least my neighbours are sorted now, and hopefully if we get a quiet night which at the moment does not sound like it, I can do bits for them and my mother in the morning.
No gardening at the moment, just staying out of the way is the main thing!
Regards and thanks to all of you.
Love.a sad Neil. Crying

Best to you, Neil. I bet they are surprised that people fight back. They don't think they will get caught & it is 'exciting'. They won't feel it is 'exciting' if they are locked up. Hope there is room to do so. glad that Muriel is fine.

Neil, I am so saddened by the riots and all the destruction. It makes no sense to destroy that which makes your life better. I hope when they arrest them that they make them repair all that they destroyed. The manual labor might teach them something.
I am also glad to hear that you and Muriel are safe. You are such an angel from God to tend to your neighbors needs. You will be blessed for being such a blessing. Please stay safe! Smiling Group hug

How true Lucy. Where one wants an excuse they'll find one, not matter what it is, it just plain stinks that there are those who find pleasure in destroying and harming; I don't know, what is the answer?

Hi Neil,

We are coming down to kent for the week-end. Have to be in Maidstone on Sunday but will be free half of Friday all Saturday and part of Monday. What is good to visit at this time of the year outside the City that is?

Dear Carol, on Friday on the way down here I would go to Eltham Palace first see http://www.english-heritage.or...
However if you are going straight to your destination first and then going out I would go to Yalding Gardens. This place is amazing and traces garden history from the 12 th century to modern times by using 12 different gardens.
See here http://www.visitmaidstone.com/...
On Saturday I would go to Leeds Castle which is majestic. It has fantastic gardens and a huge aviary, plus it is easy to spend a long time there as there is so much to see. It is not far from Maidstone, by car. See http://www.leeds-castle.com/la...
Monday I would go to Iden Croft Herb Gardens which has National Collections of herbs and is lovely to go there just for the aroma. See http://www.visitmaidstone.com/...
If these are not suitable then please let me know and I will see what else I can do.
I have been to all of these places many times and all our lovely in there own right!
Also near Leeds Castle there is a great little pub in the village, and as in so many Kent villages, these pubs do fantastic food. Plus don't forget the scones, jam and cream which is another thing Kent is noted for, as well as Hops!
Regards.
Neil.
