Ken those seedlings look GREAT!! I've being thinking I going to do the grow light thing this winter. When did you plant the seed? My thinking is the sooner I can get the growing the bigger they will be when planted outdoors. Think I'm going LED grow lamps. What did you use?

I've got 12 crosses the over wintered outdoors. My son and I looked today and found 5 that are starting to sprout!! Hurray! I was getting worried.

Cory, I planted mine at the beginning of January, after having them in the the fridge for about 6 weeks.
The lights I use...well....um... I took 2 t-8 fluorescent shop lights and made one out of them. Kind of doubling the power and light output from them. I have a couple of them.

No problem, Marilyn. You can call me Ray....you can call Jay...just don't call me Shirly.

Your seedlings are looking great Ken!

I've got bee pods forming all over the place. I also tried 2 crosses, one took and so far the other isn't showing any signs of fattening up. I might try a few more crosses, or just pick out some of the bee pods and try my hand at sprouting them.

The little seedlings from Cat's Eye have all sprouted and are growing well, though not as big as Shirly's, uh Ken's, the one from Casper's Shadow are doing fine but not ALL of them sprouted and I have not seen 'hide nor hair' from any of little Brevity's seeds. These seeds were sent to me and I am so happy to have the experience of watching them grow and eventually seeing what they become. smiles

The time just got away from me this year. I didn't do any crosses but I have some bee pods. I just got Art School last year and it has four bee pods that developed.

When I was in Iowa for my nephew's wedding the bride's family had a bunch of iris along their hillside. I noticed quite a few bee pods. Which made me wonder, do you have to wait until the pods open to get viable seeds? They wanted me to take the pods, but I thought they would not be ready.

It is my understanding that they have to mature on the stem. I have never heard of harvesting any kind of viable seeds from an immature pod. When I was growing up we always chose which vegetables, such as okra, to allow to 'go to seed' or mature and harden enough to grow viable seeds.
