Ken, here, Maiden. Since my tap water only has 32 ppm solids, to me at least, that is quite minimal. But, that being said, we have a reverse osmosis unit under our kitchen sink, so I can always use that water if need be. Since I would be growing these plants (during fall/winter) in greenhouses, and since all those plants are watered with tap water, it would be difficult to NEVER get tap water on those carnivores.

Hi everyone, In my area (9b: hot & dry in summer and cold in winter), which type (or species) of Carnivorous plants you would recommend suitable/easy to grow in house? I need at least 3 of them (same type ok) mature enough to begin terminating all bugs that harm and bother my house plants. Growing tips are also helpful. Thanks

( I barely remember Tarev had suggested once before, but regret none taken at the time)

Could you try Butterworts those might do well.. honestly though i think most carnivoes require too much sun/humidity to do well in a typical home. When I emailed Cal carnivores i was into the north american pitcher plants. but thought they were kinda pricy. sence then kim, my lead staff at my house has placed a ban on more bedroom plants but maybe she'd be into outside plants. i'll have to give her an email.

Thanks, Plantsmylove. But after reading and tinkering more here, couldn't find and see any way to continue pursuing CP ... in our area! Sad Sad

I'm sure if you keep your head strait and read up on them you'll find one thats bound to live in your zone. you could try tropical pitcher plants just crank up the humidiy and enclose them in a greenhouse. .

Well, my main purpose to grow CPs remains: to catch all annoying bugs that harm and bother my houseplants which live in my house (not greenhouse), some with low humidity, and most would struggle in low temp. So, time to find other way killing bugs and move on... But thanks for all sharing and advice (I do enjoy appreciating the wonder of CPs.)

I made a wish list of the plants I want to order at cailefornia carnivores- they have a lot more then the website lists if you call them you will see. I emailed them, we'll have to wait I guess I'm booked until they close today so i'll call them this saturday If they don't answer back.

Francois, you have a fabulous collection and you are an outstanding photographer. I loved seeing the different species.

We have 5 native genera, Drosera, Dionaca, Sarracena, Utricularia and Pinguicula here in SC. Sadly, due to illegal poaching they are disappearing fast. As of a few years ago there were still more than 2 dozen different species. The colonies grow in natural depressions called Carolina Bays which are also disappearing due to development. Native plant societies always try to harvest the scarce plants prior to habitat destruction.
