We're going to be in and out trying to find flooring for our flooded lake house. I've been asked to speak to a Junior League group about plants, and I'm trying to find someone to who'd like to do it instead of me. It's for later this year and I don't want to be locked in to something down the road. Need to make some calls tomorrow.Let me talk to Bruce and see what his week looks like. He just finished helping me get the newsletter out for this month. I don't know when he wants to go back to the lake.

This is an Amorphophallus konjac I gave to my DD a few years ago. After it died back, she left it in the pot and put the pot away. Didn't do anything last year, so this year she told SIL to dump the dirt so she could use the pot. He saw a small stem coming up and they decided to wait and see what it was. It was a "stinky plant."

I encouraged her (maybe pushed her) to enter it in the flower show. It received a blue ribbon and a green thumb (means it received a score of over 95). .....I still think that pot looks familiar...... Glare

careyana...you need to come to the garden party at Laura Joseph's home on the 26th. It's going to be a tour of her garden as well as one of her neighbor's. I can send you directions if you'd like to go. It's open to anyone. Was supposed to be for our club, but somehow got bigger and bigger.
And you're welcome to come anytime...just let me know because we're in and out...like today..gone all day, home at 4, and then I had a board mtg tonight till after 9.

A garden party? That sounds wonderful! I think I'd love to go. Smiling Let me make sure nothing is going on that day and I'll get back to you.

I also still need to have you over (your husband is welcome to join us) one evening. You can see everything that's dying and wilting. Smiling

Have someone make a video...I want to know how too! Sandy, that is funny about your DD winning with your plant. Good to know your greenthumb energy goes a long way.
I applaud you again b/c although a plant or bloom may look nice from far, the flaws are glaring on close inspection. I can barely make a bouquet for that reason.

One of the funniest, but could have been disastrous, things that happened to me at the show... One of our members was looking for something to do to "help" us with the horticultural classifications. She had been moving plants from our area to the guys that do the placements on the tables. Being a little bored, she picked up some scissors and said she needed to groom one of my plants.... I looked up just in time to see her snip the bloom stem off my black bromeliad!! All I said was , "Oh no, you're kidding, right?" But she lifted the stem telling me it needed to come off because......and then she saw the long red bloom at the bottom of the stem she had just cut off... She thought it was 'an old stem' for some reason.
Had it happened to any number of other exhibitors, she'd have had some 'splaining to do! I gave her a new name, "Edward Scissor Hands." She managed to poke the stem back into leaf it came out of. I still got a blue ribbon, so all was well...but I bet she never, ever decides to groom anyone's plants without asking... ever again!

Thumb of 2011-06-22/Bubbles/62bd56 Just thought you might like to see I've had my "revenge of sorts," all in fun, and fixed my friend's apron for the garden party! She was the one who snipped my bloom off the black bromeliad the day of flower show...
Can you see the scissors????

Thanks, its a fun group of gardeners. We encourage each other.

Maybe when it's freezing cold outside and I can't get out of the chair, I can go back and put names to 'em!

Make sure you let us know - would love to add a few of those to my growing collection ( what can I say I would add them all if I could!)
