Nice shots. I would be willing to bet this is a VERY old caladium. The only difference between it & the first Caladium Bi-color to be first described is that this also has pink spots. I would think that it is a hybrid of the original though I would have no idea how to investigate that.

Some of my first Caladium hybrids involved this "wild" type Caladium with simple white and red spots. Progeny yielded white spots only, red spots only, pink spots only, white and pink, pink and red, and ORANGE and white spots. I've since tried to capitalize on the orange to breed some with more widespread orange color on the leaves.

LariAnn , wish me luck then. I have a inflorescence on this old plant, & a inflorescence emerging on my thai hybrid that I had ID'd here. I am going to try to combine them, & I would LOVE to see an orange variant.

I will let you know what happens with my first attempt to cross Caladiums as soon as I know!

The other caladium donating pollen I hope.

Wish I knew how much longer for both of these inflorescence. I thought I was going to miss them due to my trip, but they are still growing.

This looks different than mine. I am noticing some caladiums have differently shaped leaves. I have a red centered variety for instance that has the same colors as another variety (I assume) I have, but that other has ruffled leaves. Here are the photos of the two & the painters pallet for comparison.

Noel, Did you ask them where they acquired this plant. I'm wondering if this could be a wild collected Caladium bicolor as opposed to a cultivar or hybrid. It is supposed to be an extremely variable species. Here are some links.

Also take a look a Bonitin's images of rainforest C. bicolor from Brazil (perhaps escaped but maybe not)..

I did not ask Evan, but I think it will be a cultivar. None of the caladiums I have found here are "native"

Hello everyone. I am curious if it is common for a caladium hybrid to be sterile?

On a related note, I was looking into it and she's the moderator of this forum. I wonder if the higher ups should make a new moderator. Thinking

Forum moderators are not appointed, someone must volunteer for the position.
If @Dave @Jon @Trish knows that LariAnn is no longer on the site, her name will be removed as forum moderator. @Gina1960, you are so very knowledgeable about Aroids, why not volunteer for the position?
