LOL, Elaine. We have great privacy in back yard, wood fence lined with 20 foot podocarpus trees. I can walk around in my nightie and we have an outside shower stall we use often. Luckily no two stories around us.

Thanks Mel, I wonder if temperature also makes a difference? It was cooler when I got the plant, and we've had lots of rain too, so humidity is 100% most eves/mornings. Maybe when it gets cooler and drier I might see the white spots coming back out, along with the burgundy coloring.

LOL, I have the requisite privacy but I also have mosquitoes and no see ums. I can't imagine exposing all that flesh to the flying teeth. Hilarious!

sunkissed said:I have a question for you all. I bought a Billbergia 'Casa Blanca' this past spring. It looks nice and healthy and has several pups now. The problem is the white spotted leaves are losing the spots, and more green leaves now. I have pictures posted when I first got it here: Bromeliad (Billbergia 'Casa Blanca') . You can see how nice Melanie's plant looks, then mine, but it isn't even that spotted now. Do you think I need to put it more sun? It gets filtered all day long.

Sherri, I have a Casa Blanca too, and it looks like yours, not nearly as spotted as the ones that Melanie posted. Hmmm, maybe I'll try moving mine. I hadn't even thought that it might not be getting enough light. They sure are pretty when the white is more visible.

I talked to a bromeliad expert and she said bromeliads will get deeper green when lots of rain and clouds and color back up in drier cooler conditions. Bills can take a bit more sun than others.

Just noticed my Billbergia 'Beadleman' blooming yesterday. The pic shows them to be kind of a deep purple, but in person they aren't purple at all. The true flower color is a beautiful saturated deep navy blue or midnight blue - very distinct flower color.

I do love those colors and you hit the nail on the head when you mentioned how saturated they are. Just gorgeous.

I got it at a plant stall. The label said "Bromeliad". I have several with the same label now.

Looks like it's going to seed itself all around for you, and make a nice happy colony, Glen. Pretty! Some brom flowers here attract butterflies and hummers, too.

OK, I know those red "flowers" are not the actual bloom itself but would they be the bracts or sepals????? Just curious. Shrug!

Alice, I think those may be the seed pods. I have one that makes similar, only mine has green leaves (maybe because it's in deep shade). They are pink at first and gradually fade to this waxy white, then all of a sudden they're gone - don't actually know if the squirrels eat them or they burst and spray their seeds around or what. (this plant is buried way back in the front yard jungle where I hardly ever go).

That's probably it. Mine never set seed, those little red things are generally empty when I check. I am going to have to give the pollinators a good talking to.

I just gave my A. perez some food, it should be putting up inflos any day. How is yours doing?

I never got one, darn it! Tropiflora only had one, and they had sold it by the time I got around to asking for it. I still ask them every time I go there, though. I'm going again on Friday - yay!

Can't wait to see the flowers on yours.

I bought an A. Perez this past spring from Michael's Bromeliads, it has finally started showing me some growth, just a wee pup. Alice, do you have a recent picture of yours? I was in Dunnellon this past week camping at Rainbow River, I thought about heading to the fall plant sale at Tropiflora from there on Saturday, but my Jeep was fully loaded with all my husband's boat stuff, so decided to just head on back home. Elaine, how was the sale?
