Wondering if anyone ever got freaky seedlings pop up? Variegated would be very pretty.

I've only seen a pic of one lily that had slightly variegated foliage. It was a very slight lighter color on the edge of the leaves. While a lot has been done with lily flowers. Not much has been done with the foliage.

I once obtained an unregistered variegated leaf asiatic lily hybrid of Ruth and Hugh Cocker's. It was basically rejected as "unworthy" material, and was still kept as an oddity..... my reason for getting it, too. It was only slightly marginally variegated white, and mostly at the leaf tips, and sometimes not all. Quite a poor grower, and I don't think I have it anymore. Never even saw it bloom.

There are some species lilies that can, in their normal variations, have white leaf margins often created by copious silver cilia.

Where did you get it from? I'm going to grow lillies from seed so I'm going to be looking for any unique foliage. Only variegated plant I have from seed is a natural variegated rose of sharon shrub grown by me from seed out of hundreds of normal ones.

That was when Ruth and Hugh were transitioning from their farm to a senior's apartment complex(6 years ago?). Volunteers from the Friends School in St. Paul, MN went to the farm and dug many of their hybrids that were left over after previous lily aficionados had retrieved their desires. They then sold them at their annual plant sale where I purchased it. No longer available, that I know of, unless someone in our local lily society is still growing it.

It seems I have seen, at least by claim and photo, a variegated leaf lily for sale in one of the more common catalogs, more trustworthy that a "Michigan Bulb company", but not as reliable as a "Lily Nook". Didn't give it a second thought as it looked very gaudy to me, as most double flowering lilies do also. But, that's just me.

Never imagined a variegated lily was possible. On the other hand, I was surprised in the vege patch last year by a rather spiffy variegated parsnip. Too pretty to eat, it was.

It's possible, just rare.

I found a variegated crabgrass in my garden once....
