I'm going to place an order I think and keep them inside on my bright window sills. Lynn, do you think that would be alright? Or should I put them out until it gets really cold?

You can put them out until cool weather arrives. Then put them on a bright window sill.
Which ones are you getting?

That is a really cute chair, where did you get it from? Love the shape.

Good question, Lynn. I was trying to remember. I've been hauling it around for a few years now. Hilarious! In fact, with all the watering, the wooden seat got so rotten that I was able to pull it out by hand the other day without using a saw or anything. I just stuck the old enamel pan with Swiss Chard in it temporarily. Succulents will go in soon (I hope).

Did you ever see this one? One of my faves ... it's still out in CA (I hope).

Tee that is really cute with the round pan. It is going to be great with succulents in it. Lovey dubby
I am so excited about the second chair. I don't remember seeing that. How did you fix the seat for the plants? I have a chair that I just got from a yard sale that I want to do that with.

That is a great chair, Lynn! Perfect for planting. I love it! Lovey dubby

You can use window screen material or chicken wire stapled to the underside of the seat area and shaped to the depth you desire. Line with sheet moss or other green moss, add a light succulent soil mix, then plant. Don't stretch the wire tightly if you want to add the plants out the front or sides like in the picture because you will need to shape the "depth" of the planting area a bit deeper to accommodate the plants. The chicken wire has larger holes to poke plants through from the outside but the screening is less stiff and fairly easy to cut slits in if you are careful. After planting, add more moss around the plants. If you use chicken wire you can pull bits of the moss through the holes to cover the wire. If you use screening or some other material like heavy burlap or such, you will need to glue the moss on the bottom to cover the material. Does that make sense?

I can't wait to see yours!!

I was just looking at your article again. The hanging cages for bird suet are perfect for succulents as they can be planted on all sides and hung like a succulent ball. Perfect drainage too. I had not thought about using those. I am going to do that and string several together in a long display. Also will be simple to take apart and hang inside when cold weather sets in. Now I'm looking for sales. Most of the garden dept. sales at the Big Box stores have begun and with some pretty good mark-downs already. If I can just get there at the right time ... Sticking tongue out

"Succulent balls for squares" Hilarious!

♥ the chair, Faye. Don't know if that's heavy felt in the seat, but I've seen the felt bags planted like that. Gonna try it myself. Another thing that works for liners if you make some drainage holes is roofing felt.

This is a little OT of chairs but along the same lines. I want to remove the glass from the old storm doors in this picture and make planting pockets for hardy succulents and other things in between the bars (probably with felt), then line with moss. These are so heavy with the glass in them that I actually can't lift or move them. Glare
