Teri,
Keppel himself doesn't send irises abroad. But Thomas Johnson kindly agrees to send Keppel irises as part of his order (As far as I know, the Mid-America Garden nursery is a few miles from The Keppel nursery)

You're very lucky. Other than Canada, I so far have not found growers in other countries that will ship to the US. I'm looking forward to visiting Mid-America this spring. Yes, quite a number of the large iris farms are located quite close to each other. I'll probably spend several days in the area.

I have some recent Keppel intros purchased over the past year or two that I'm looking forward to seeing bloom. The garden's looking good so this may be the year that these Keppels bloom!
Year of introduction:
Space Signal 2018
Ocean Liner 2017
Sugar High 2018
Adriatic Noble 2017
Arrivederci 2014 - replacement
Bond Girl 2017
Edwardian Era 2018
Fire Danger 2015
Game Changer 2018
House Arrest 2014
Imperial Guard 2017

It should be a great spring! There are more than 90 Keppels in my garden.

One of my very favorite more recent Keppel Irises is Sunset Boulevard. Lovey dubby

You have to expand it to see the more subtle color blends in the falls.

cwwilson3 said:What Keppel irises do well in the clay based soil on the, currently, very wet East Coast/Mid Atlantic? I love these superlative iris, but they don't all do particularly well here in Maryland-DC zone 7A.

East Coast and Mid-Atlantic iris lovers (and those with similar clay, etc) what Keppel iris work for you?

Thanks in advance.

To answer your question, I have the same issue that not all of Keith's iris grow well here, but the ones that do grow very well indeed.

My best growing Keppel's include Strawberry Shake:

Montmartre:

Joviality:

Then I have some that grow well but don't bloom every year, like Brilliant Idea, Parisian Dawn, the SDB Shock, Teeny Bopper, Tuscan Summer, Wintry Sky, Alpenview, and Jersey Cream.

The ones that hated it here are: Venita Faye, Storm Track (&would never bloom), Persnickity, Londonderry, Gitano, Easter Candy and Class Ring, Ocean Liner, Marital Bliss.

Hope that helps. I have a lot of newer ones, but they haven't bloomed yet, so not sure how they will fare. Boondoggle though is growing huge for a Border Bearded iris.

Interesting observation about which Keppels do well in your area, Les. It's a bummer when one, particularly a new, pricey intro, doesn't do well. Sometimes just moving an increase (if the iris in question makes more than one increase) to a different bed, makes a positive difference. I had trouble getting Arrivederci going a while back, - it died - and Keith replaced it for me. Doing well now. In a different bed.

I am in Zone 6b and have about 45 Keppel irises and 3 more ordered. The ones that grow really well in my area are Wintry Sky, Florentine Silk, Haunted Heart, Strawberry Shake, Roaring 20s, Birthday Girl, Bollywood, Nouveau Riche and Fogbound. Some of the others are rather new and have not had a chance to going yet.

Jane, Haunted Heart is a fave here., too. For the hybridizers, Silk Road is a Keppel that's a very good parent.
