Yup, that "for-postage" can get you in trouble. GOOD trouble. Rolling my eyes.

Leslie,

I don't have Arctic Burst yet. But since Gokldkist is such a great performer, I am going to try crossing it with re-bloomers! Could be interesting!

Yes, I guess for postage works...but it somehow doesn't seem right to not be sending something fun in return Thumbs down ....tapping foot impatiently...come on irises...Grow!!! Hilarious!

Greg, I hadn't realized that Goldkist was a parent of Arctic Burst. I have Goldkist...so maybe I can have some fun making crosses with it too! Big Grin

I don't have any of Roger Duncan's creations. I think he must do TB's so I am looking at the photos of his irises with my eyes closed.... almost.

Arctic Burst parentage is:

Goldkist x Puccini

What is cool is his use of "Arctic Burst" as a pollen parent. Arctic Burst has three "kids"

Brainstorm
Fantasy Ride
Go West

All three are "Quandary" x "Arctic Burst".

Brainstorm = Seedling # 04-F-91-06

Fantasy Ride = Seedling # 04-F-91-55

Go West = Seedling # 04-F-91-16

WOW! Amazing!

Very cool! I have Pucchini too, but not Quandary. Imagine what other interesting patterns might still be out there waiting to be 'created' ...it's fun to think about! Smiling

Those are 3 very nice flowers from that one cross! Well done Roger! Hurray! Hurray! Hurray!

Goldkist (Black) is a fantastic parent. Roger does the office work so has less time to hybridize.

Wow, no kidding! Goldkist is parent to 68 child irises including such notables as:
Arctic Burst
Brussels
Class Clown
Color My World
Crow's Feet
Dazzling
Man's Best Friend
Project Runway
Quixotic
Wild Angel

...and many more really nice ones! Thanks for pointing that out Lucy!

That is an amazing range of colors and forms from the same parent! What fun it would be to do crosses and see all the new variations. Unfortunately room for all the seedlings would be a problem.

Here's Shakedown from my garden in 2012. I don't have it any longer though.

I've only 2 so far: Shakedown bloomed the following spring and despite being a modest rhizome it really put on a show! I'm hoping Artic Burst follows suite this Spring.

I value some irises because of their vigorous growth and reliable bloom over some new beauties that are finicky and need constant encouragement to thrive. I will go the extra mile to make sure an iris survives but in the end if a sulky one goes away despite all my attempts to make it happy I do not replace it.... no matter how beautiful it is. sigh

Liking Hollywood Nights too. I don't have any Duncans, as far as I know, but agree
that they are beautiful! I'm hoping that my second year of growing will produce enough
for me to be able to trade! Thanks to all who have so generously gifted me already!
