The database here is impressive. There are folks who do not want to chat but still use the database. It has become a professional source of information and really is about All Things Plants. Quite a feat for a small team of dedicated individuals and quite a boon for the rest of us.

Thank You! (one is good) Thank You! (two is better) Thank You! (three is best)..... has been my motto for years, so triple thank you and much appreciation to everyone who works on the database!
I was finally able to put together my own personal Iris database over the Christmas holidays. The ATP database made it so much easier looking up the information that I wanted included in my database, which also brings up another question. When I was looking up different Iris in the database there were a few that did not have any photographs of the cultivar. Should we start a thread that lists these Iris? Would this help the Admin And all of us? I know I have a few photographs and I'm sure a lot of you have your own, or know where to find and give the correct credit to whoever took the photos to post them. The thread could be named something like "the following Iris need your photographs for the database" I've been a member of ATP for less than a year so if there is already a thread like this could someone let me know where to look for it?
Thanks again to everyone, I tip my hat to you. Barbara

Also is Paul ok ? I have not seen Paul post anything on ATP for a while.

Paul is a major contributor to the Multi-Plants images so look for his most recent images, from yesterday, there. Thumbs up

I think most members have been adding their images when they get them. I know I get excited when an entry is blank and we finally add an image but multiple images are nice too, different looks for different locations, bud shot, clump shots are always great too!

When you open up the entire database and look at them alphabetically, you'll see that we still need thousands of images, too many to list.
I contact nurseries and have to ask permission to add their images, I have a form letter I send. Anyone is welcome to use it too, especially nice if you have closer personal contact with a vendor, but the images should also be something that can easily be copied. (A few have them totally locked out.) Most agree to it, I just finished Stout and Iris Sisters, Greg is working on Superstition. I sent out an email to Mid.America a few days ago, haven't heard from them. If anyone is in regular contact with them, maybe they can put in a good word for ATP. nodding I would love to find more historics too.

Good. I was looking for a specific Burseen that someone on Cubits generously gave to me, but it is only tentatively identified as a Burseen. Promised not to make that statement as a fact until it blooms. Fingers crossed.

Me, too, since I wanted it for the Story Circle. If it is something else, though, I am still grateful to the person who found it for me and even arranged to have it brought to my house. Lovey dubby Lovey dubby

There are 65,585 irises in the database. Can't say with any sort of certainty, but at least 40,000 (probably more than 50,000) entries don't have pictures. It would be a long thread...... Smiling

That's actually pretty impressive considering the database was created almost from scratch less than 4 years ago.

The biggest gaps in terms of pictures are with the beardless types, median and dwarf classes of bearded iris, arils/arilbreds, and pretty much anything hybridized prior to 1980 or so. Pictures of irises from any of those groups are greatly appreciated.

The most complete parts of the database, not surprisingly, are relatively recent tall bearded intros from the better known hybridizers. Keith Keppel, for example, registered 134 TBs between 2000 and 2013. All but one of them, Boston Cream, have pictures in the database. Boston Cream will no doubt get its picture soon. Smiling

"I'm done"

I just finished importing 480 photographs from "Superstition Iris Gardens" into our database! 96 of which were for cultivars that did not have a picture already! Most of those were from the "Historic" category. I want to thank Rick Tasco and Roger Duncan for allowing us here at ATP to input their work into our database. I am very visual (as I am sure most of us are) and a picture is a must when talking/view flower details. It is very hard to describe an iris when you have a color code or description but no picture to look at to understand the written details.

I happy to say that we now have a picture in the database for all 105 of Rick's introductions and all 8 of Roger's introductions. When I started, there were at least 20-25 of their intros not in the database.

On to the next project!
