In order to add a plant to our list we must first choose its Status. In addition to "Have", "Want" and "Used To Have" in the drop down box , could we also have one that says, "Researching", "Research Item", or something similar? I'd love to be able to keep track of those many plants I'm very close to identifying, but can't continue working with until the growing season is upon us once again, and by that time it's usually like starting all over again from the beginning. I think the few I've tried to keep track of are listed in my categories as "Haves", but that doesn't help me find the elusive (and usually forgotten *Blush* ) Latin name of a plant I barely recall in order to continue investigations once it's growing again.

I'd really rather not complicate things by adding to the "Have, Want, Used to" options. But I think you can get close to what you want by using categories. Create a category called "Researching" and just put the plant into that category when it applies. Then when you get past the researching phase, just remove the plant from that category.

That sounds like a great solution Dave.

I agree! I created separate Trade and Wish lists so those categories are separated from the rest of my inventory lists, much easier to find and edit that way. I may need to further fine tune those categories as some lists are getting quite large.

Is it possible to make just one category private? As in a trade list?

Yes, you can set privacy settings on a category-by-category basis.

Lynn, just go to your list and click on "manage categories," so that it brings up a list of the categories you have. Then click on the "edit" icon to make changes to the settings for that category. (It always takes me forever to remember how to do this, which is why I thought I'd mention this. Smiling )

Thanks Dave.

I had already set up a separate category for these, but thought I'd mention the status box as well. I'd just really rather not have a plant like, say for instance, Garlic Mustard (Alliaria petiolata) in my list under any of the presently available status choices... just because I'm researching it. I don't have it, want it, nor did I used to have it, but it's rampant around here anyway.

Thanks for considering it. I tip my hat to you.

I'll try to make it a private category. That would work well. Thanks!
