A few years ago it seemed many mail order sources were offering 'Patty's Plum', but I can't find any reputable vendors selling it now. I did find bare root plants offered in Jung's catalog, but I'm not very confident about perennials from them.

If anyone sees them offered, please post

Gemini sage. I had Pattys Plum for years and lost it in the dreadful last winter.
I have been looking for plants also with the same results you found.
There is a nursery near me that carries Plum Pudding and I will buy some this spring.
I agree with your reluctance to buy from less than reputable mailorder places .

I thought there was another one with plum in the name, Plum Pudding- that's it! You're right, still looking for that elusive "blue pink", and the pink of your Patty's Plum is what convinced me I need that one for my pink bed. I hadn't seen the New York series....or maybe I did and it was only offered as a mixture, not sure, but I do like Manhattan. Have you seen sources for them?

The NewYork series referrs to names only,the collection has a few pinks. The PP in the collage is from the net and the colors arent true because my PP was as it was ,a nice bright pink.
O K Back to Manhattan. Can you Google to see? these are new on the market and the local nursery where I buy container plants is carrying Plum Pudding. She hadnt heard of the New Yorks either but would check her sources. We left it I would call her before I come to see if she found Manhattan and keep out a few plants for me.

My daughter and I will start to watch my ciscs of the Forth Season of Downton Abbey soon. It takes 9 hours to watch the whole thing so we start soon. We started with season One last Sat.

They also have offered Plum Pudding, but it's out of stock at the moment. However, Wayside is offering Plum Pudding too. They look really nice too, and are described as an improved version of Patty's Plum.

Thats great news, just taking a potty break from Downton Abbey. I did see Manhattan on GC but the price choked me. I might need to cave in. I didn think of Wayside but I want at least another pink so I will check them out.Thanks.
I just checked Wayside and Harlem looks good too. That would give me 3 pinks altho Harlem drifts a bit to the Coral.

I have such a bad memory,I always check if I havnt ordered from them but just knew the name was familiar.
American Meadows is the same.
I will let the Manhattan go if I have to use Wayside. The three pink poppies will be planted in different parts of the garden.I will just use #2 Plum Pudding and hope to find a Manhattan in my local travels.

Found another source for Patty's Plum, but I don't know anything about this vendor- The Vermont Wildflower Farm. They have mostly good feedback though...

The price is good already, and they're on sale now, so not a big loss if the plants aren't great.

My issue with this plant is The images on the website look strangely like a somnifarium or annual poppy. I am positive the images were shopped and a blue layer was added to give a purple look.
I see they are shipped bare root thats good.

I just double checked the vermont wildflower images and these two are annual plum poppies ,not orientals.Pattys Plum has a cluster of leaves that are more green ans deeply cut with prickles, that grows below the bloom.
Check the first pix in the collage,thats a oriental.
I only bring this up because if vermontwildflowers images are what it sells, you wont be getting an oriental.

I noticed that about the pics too, which gave me pause. I was kinda surprised to see they rated pretty well. You've purchased Poppies bareroot before? I was unsure if that was a good thing or not, I've only had experience with potted starter plants. They offer a lot of bareroot perennials, some of which don't seem like good candidates for planting bare root. Still worth a try though, I looked up shipping charges and they're very cheap too, $6.95(ish) up to $49 purchase, and free shipping for $50 or more.

The collection of 6 poppies that I ordered from American Meadows 10 years ago ,were all bare root. They came in spring and had to develop until the next season .The "roots " were smaller than a pencil and several were mushy and didnt make it. When I moved here 7 years ago I bought another collection but I think those were from a co-op. Pattys Plum was among them.
OP's in pots are always a better bet. I am wary of bare roots as they are sensitive.

It just seems like they ship them at the wrong time of year. I successfully moved some from a clients garden this year, after the foliage had gone dormant in late spring/early summer. They sprouted fall foliage (which is still there), and let me know the move had been successful. I don't think bare root plants would be so iffy if they would dig and ship them during natural dormancy, but I've never seen any offered at that time.

Jo Ann, did all of your co op plants survive? What time of year did you plant them?

I agree about the bare root time of year. Do you think a winter bare root planting would work.
I guess thats why the spring potted plant works great here.
I honestly dont remember when the co-op roots were planted ,give me some time to search back in my notes.
We are about to commence the second crismis dinner and presents . I have to go make nice to the son in laws family and 91 year old father with the horrible pocketbook dog. I like having my own area of the house,I can retreat here whenever I need to.

Mine keep foliage through most of winter, so I don't think that would be a good time to ship bare root.

I have done a deep search of notes from 2008 and cant find who or when I bought the collection.
The in laws are a bigger group than yesterday when it was the rest of my daughters and husbands and grandchildren all over 21. We used all the flatware we own but drank mimosas all day ( except me )
Todays merry band comes with #3 four year old girls one of which has a Frozen doll that sings "Let it Go" when she presses the necklace. I wish it was the end of the day already.

Bare root for spring? do you think ? I presume the bare roots would have a small winter crown unless its just a chunk of root.

Yep, the vendors I see offering bare root Poppies are shipping in spring. I'm a little skeptical, but never hurts to try.
