Oh my goodness Sue!!!! Blinking Blinking Blinking Those are insane temps & wind chills!!!!! I don't know how you do it. Confused Stay as warm as you can up there.

And now I'm going to sound like a real wimp.
As I sit here looking at our thermometer saying 65 degrees, I find it near impossible to believe that in12 hours time it's going to be 22 degrees. A 43 degree drop???? It just doesn't seem possible but they have been adamant on the low for a full week otherwise I could believe someone typed in the wrong digits.

Karen check out the many gardens listed here http://daylilydiary.com/ at Charlotte's Daylily Diary. I have ordered from several listed, I have not ordered from the garden you mentioned so I have no input for you on that one.

Very cold here with wind today so it seems even colder.
If you want to be happy for a lifetime plant a garden!

Yikes Ann! I would be concerned too..if we get those temps we are on severe weather alert already..which we did experience 17Jan2012 sitting at 21F at 9am...brrr...no you are not a wimp...just really harder for us who do not always get those very low 20's. Severely damaged a lot of my succulents that time.

Sue your temps are so brutal! That is how it is as well with my friends in Winnipeg..those onerous windchills and drifting snow! Blinking Rolling my eyes.

Sue, I am curious...... do you have a heated barn? Does livestock survive at those temps. without a heated barn?

Yes, really unheard of for us here. But prior to this we had a relatively mild fall and winter so far. At least mostly.

I didn't even take Lily outside today. She can't take the cold at all, at least not this much cold. Even two of her dog coats would not keep her warm. Doggy piddle pads to the rescue around here.

I was thinking it's time for doggie port-a-potties in this kind of weather.

You know, you could grow a plot of sod in one of those flats they use at the nurseries & then when this kind of weather happens the dogs could use that in the basement or something, maybe just inside the doorway & then you could set it outside after they "finished".

Just took Pearl out for her last one of the evening & it's coming!!!! The wind is really ripping now in long drawn out gusts. Eerily reminiscent of the way hurricanes do.

Not enough room or light for indoor plants here. I sure can't imagine a tray of sod! Rolling on the floor laughing

They do have those fake sod potties for dogs but I think Lily would never use it. Have enough trouble trying to get her to piddle on the piddle pads. She usually moves and misses! Sad

No rugs here at all. That would be because she thinks they are suitable for pottying. I bought this really nice kitchen rug early last winter. Before I got Lily. I rolled it up and put it away for storage as soon as I got her or she would have peed on it. I don't dare put it back out.

I remember that rug. You posted a photo of it. So it has escaped the teeth of Lily. I wonder if you'll ever be able to put it out?

Maybe in the summer. The more we can go outside and spend time outside, the less trouble Lily gets into inside. Plus she is getting older and I hope will eventually grow out of some of the puppy mischief she gets into now.
