I let all of my large Schefflera plants go this year. They just took up too much space so I left them all outside, knowing they wouldn't survive winter. They didn't.

Again, I had little space for those big plants and personally, I prefer lots of other tropical plants (and I do mean LOTS). I have about 750 tropical plants.

omg!!! talk about busy I haven't yet counted my plants but I will now but I have way less and feel totally overwhelmed when It comes to watering a couple of weeks ago I just put a bunch in the shower and gave them a good soak my cats loved it

Aww..sad you have to do that Ken. I try to grow my plants in moderation...I would feel bad having to kill a beautiful plant deliberately. But then again, you are in the business of growing them, so you would need the space.

Technically, I did not do the killing. I had a good talk with the plants (large jade and aloe vera too) and told them they were on their own. Mother Nature did the killing. I guess you would call me the facilitator.

IF I build that large sunroom, I probably will feel bad that I didn't protect them for one more winter. The 250 sf. of additional space would have made a good winter home for them.

Here is my Jade plant. It will be 9 years old in June. It was about an inch tall when I pulled it out of the dirt around my mom's jade. I put it outside every summer and it blooms every year in November.

I have three plants I consider family , all have been with me over 40 years, three states and 8 moves.
A hoya , a piece was given me from an old family friend she was 94 and could not remember how long she had the plant , It covered 3 windows.

Aloe vera from my Great Aunt , she was into drinking the juice and had several plants in her windows.

and a Christmas cactus from my grandmother
When my Grandmother passed away her flower was in full bloom , my Grandfather had it put on her casket and told all of the grand children to take a piece. My piece froze on the ten hour drive back home , I planted it anyway and it survived.

Nice growing, Cinda, and yes, some of our plants will become part of our family. Yours are especially dear since they carry memories of love ones.

the aloe and Christmas cactus are vacationing outside for the summer
