I've now got 10 of those 6' diameter beds and my largest bed is 22' x 7'. I've got 14 beds of in-ground plumeria, 29 varieties and 36 total plants. Needless to say, I've got a huge yard. Digging up deeply rooted St., Augustine grass, amending the native soil, planting, bordering, and then mulching is a chore for this old guy. I can't get much done in the summer. My tolerance of heat and humidity is pitiful. Here are a few of the 6' diameter beds and the largest one, my latest project.

My oldest plant is my parlour palm which my Mom brought home as a 4-inch tropical at least 40 years ago. I've had it at for about 22 years now since she passed. I remember her making a special decorated basket for it with a cut out fabric tiger design. Thanks for the memories.( I also have cuttings from a Purple Heart plant from 45 years ago , but I don't think that counts as the original plant)

Forgot to mention, Pseudobombax ellipticum is a mouth full. Youngest daughter came up with a nickname: Faux Bob. She has Faux Bob Jr. living at her house and uses it as her Christmas Tree every year. Smiling

I paid 25 cents a piece for the cactus. There were orginally four (4/$1.00) but the other two have gone by the wayside. I think I probably lost them when I lost quite a few others... 38 years ago I moved to a new house with a new (colder) hardiness zone and had a new baby. Leaving them outside for the winter might have been a mistake for most I lost but those two cactus survived the cold and thrived. They are inside full time now - its a lot colder in Reno.

My other oldest plant (Hoya pubicalyx) lives with oldest daughter now as it was in her nursery when she was a baby (Hubby was pretty sure the perfume of the flowers would kill her) so she thinks its her's. Hilarious! I got it about 60 years ago.

Most of my older plants are palms. When I built my greenhouse in 2002 and moved my collection into it in early 2003, I purchased and planted some unusual and rare palms into the ground inside it. They are now, almost 20 years later, moving on to maturity

My Ficus 'AliI' is about 27 years with me, got it as rooted cuttings from Woolworth on 6ave across from Radio Music Hall: used to work in the building above and got to sit next to the south window ..so immediately ran out and bought a bunch of plants!
Freshly bare-root repotted it last August , pruned and left for FL. Chancy, but it did very well: is in best condition ever. I grow it in a smallish 10" pot as I don't want a huge plant. It takes a haircut twice a year.

This is my mama Ficus lyrata, since 1992, also from Woolworth (was saving a lot of plants from there). Bought as a dense 4' tall handsome โ€ฆwent thru all sorts of moves (5 including 2 state moves) and was not doing good until I finally repotted it and sort of braided willy-nilly it's spindly trunks in 2008. But it was at 8' then. So I started air-layering ev year to bring it down for another inevitable move ๐Ÿ˜ (pending in the future, perhaps to FL?). So many air-layerings later resulted in 4 multi trunk 10" pots , 1 given away (was again close to the ceiling!), 1 dropped all leaves and was chucked (winter coming..), the rest still with me and 3 latest smaller ones too.. so 7 so far.
The left high branch on mama just went off too, so it's looking like a popsicle and I am waiting for 1more branch to take in a month or so..the idea being : it then finally can fit into 6' high Penske truck standing! Finally.
No way I am leaving it!
The youngest are in FL , the biggest in NJ, as they are hard to transfer. so I live in a Ficus forest of sorts..

i went and found the pic from 2007, mama-Ficus at the tallest for comparison for you to see :)..it was quite amazing now that i look back:

Thumb of 2021-09-13/skylark/3df8d5
and these 2 are the oldest air-layered branches that i no longer have: these are just after 2 years from air-layering (i took off at least 3' branches): they grew very well since these were quite old branches to start with, not the young tips.

i have propaged an enormous amount of jades from a few tiny cuttings.
this one i took in 2006 (so 15 years now): tiny 3" 1 stem:
Thumb of 2021-09-13/skylark/678760
i experimented with new method similar to air-layering: found some pics in asia for adeniums..so decided to try on my jades: wrapped moist paper and then saran wrap over the trunk not tightly and remoistened now and then for about 1 month: got roots inside the paper!

Thumb of 2021-09-13/skylark/b95cd7

so i cut it off , stuck it into plastic tube positioned over moist coco-chips to maintain high humidity and keep the bottom cut hanging in the air above chips to calluse.
now ready to pot!

this one was about 4" tall in 91-92? (almost 28-29 years) and now it's like that:

Thumb of 2021-09-13/skylark/ede4a3
this one is the only one with peeling bark and i am worried that i do not have progeny..so last year i popped a big branch and this year 2 more, not rooted yet, callusing.
