Thanks, everyone! For ONCE, I wasn't washing floors or wrapping presents on my birthday, so it was fairly good. I even did a little indoor gardening, taking care of some grossly neglected orchids, which look a whole lot happier now.
I had rose champagne with dinner, and since I'm the only one drinking it, I have more for tonight.
And there is LOTS of boozy cake left over (though DD said she is making a French apple cake for dessert, and that we WILL eat it warm from the oven
).
The birthday haul: a monster-sized trug for the garden (too big for me, really, but DH's eyes lit up, thinking of the tomatoes), two high-end silicon soap molds (from Taiwan), two Stephen King novels for my Kindle, and a geologically interesting (quartz with schorl, also a separate bit of onyx, I think) gold earrings.
Today I'm waiting for the slackers to get up (and nursing a slight hangover
). Bagels with blueberry cream cheese for breakfast, then on to the Christmas presents. There will be games to play and videos to watch afterwards (and Christmas cookies and lots of chocolates and crackers and cheese and whatever all to nibble on throughout the day), until the fabulous duck with blackberry/?boysenberry sauce dinner. (DD decided not to also make Beef Wellington too... just as well, we have enough food, I'm out of room in the fridge, and the dishes never end!)
And sometime tonight, the 49ers game (prayers that our quarterback doesn't get injured again this year - we FINALLY have a decent quarterback again!).
Merry Christmas, everyone!
