I am surprised no one has made a guess at the tree, I would think it would be fairly common in Nebraska.

there are some white crabapples, and one called Snowdrift that looks similar. Are the buds pink? Are there small fruits that look like little apples in the fall?
A close up of the flowers and foliage would be helpful.
Another flowering tree with smaller flowers is the flowering pear. Although I think of them as being more pyramidal in shape, a Google search showed more rounded forms. Pears have also thrown out some undersized fruit.
I' guessing from the picture that the flowers are indeed small. If they are larger.. 2" or so and has only four petals, it's a dogwood.

Without seeing the flowers close up it's difficult to say. A search for "white flowering tree Omaha NE" brings up some suggestions ..

Well, I didn't see anything there that jumped out at me as a match, but good to know for an ID of trees the flower and the leaf color and change of leaf color would be a big help in getting ID. Of course a close up of the leaves would be helpful too, but then I guess while you're taking pictures in the front yard of a stranger ringing the doorbell and asking what the tree is might also help. That was my thought. The tree was flowering in April according to the mark on the photo. There's plenty of time between now and bloom time to knock on the door to ask...or to 'happen by' if the neighbor is out in the yard. I look forward to learning the identity...of the tree, not the neighbor. Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing

I am inclined to think that it is a cherry of some kind. Some cherry trees get rather large. The crabapples I have seen around here are more dense than that, this tree is more open/airy and so I don't think it is a crabapple, that's my thinking anyway for what it's worth!

I'd agree that a cherry of some type seems most likely, but the picture doesn't show nearly enough detail for that to be anything more than a guess. A wide range of white flowered trees are grown in this area.

I have seen that neighbor and did meet her last spring when she invited me to her back yard to see her massive Iris garden, she even has the types all labeled! I will ask her this season what it is.

To me, it looks like an ornamental pear tree...(maybe even a Bradford Pear tree)

The color is right and timing (April) for pear but the shape and branching is off.
wrong shape and branching for serviceberry, and too large (size and age of trunk)

Looks like a white flowering cherry of some sort.

The cherry has a smaller more delicate flower that allows you to see through the tree, opposed to a crabapple and cherries normally flower earlier (April)
The other tell tale sign is no tint of green, crabapples normally have some leaves when flowering and most cherries flower before leaves can be noticed.

Of course this is just opinion from my experience.

It could be any of those things, and more. But, as stated earlier, the picture doesn't show even close to enough detail to do anything but guess. It's a virtual Rorschach test at this point.

If I see her outside shoveling snow in the next weeks I will ask her way before April.
