Arundo donax. Hate, hate, hate. I grew it and hated every minute of maintenance, cutting back, replacing the wall it dislodged every chance it got. DH and I killed a garden fork and our backs over 4 days trying to dig out 12' of it. The rootball is huge and hard as rock! We had to use shovels, the fork, a mattock and a hatchet to remove it. I hate it.

Okay, I don't hate flowers but I sure hate Kudzu. Nasty stuff taking over everything in the South! I also hate the evil Devil's Club that hung around with stinging nettles in the Cascades. Had to deal with it while working on sites. Uggh.

Is horse nettle what we call fire nettle? if so it's edible.

Kudzu. Yup -- sort of on the order of Japanese lady beetles, which were imported to resolve some sort of issue for the farmers -- and which have taken over the world in the spring and fall. And the English Sparrow -- because some genius decided that America should have EVERY species of bird, and there is no natural predator here for that species, and so they proliferate unrestrained. Makes me crazy.............

I cannot agree more fully about this. HATE is not even close, I'm not sure there is a word strong enough. If you have any helpful tips here, please share, because I am just beginning my battle with this demon weed.

Creeping Bellflowers. Don't know how they got into my flower beds, but they take over everything in a matter of no time. Try to dig up those tuber like roots that go down fairly deep.... and if a teeny tiny piece of that root breaks off it grow right back.... not to mention the gazilion seeds it produces if you miss just one. Yep, Bermuda grass is horrible! The local landscape place keeps telling us to use Turflon Ester. The problem we have is you can't spray it when the temperature is high. It gets really hot here rather quickly in the spring so we can't keep after it. It did work on killing the blackberry vines in the fall.

Well, if we're talking weeds...
Oxalis pes-caprae, aka Bermuda Buttercup... Almost impossible to get rid of. Root can go down up to a foot..there's a little corm at the end, and cormlets that are on the stem.. If you don't get them all, you're hosed. Roundup doesn't work. Covering w/ plastic sort of worked, but it crep out the sides. You folks in colder climes should feel lucky you don't have it.
Convolvulus- Bindweed.. another terrible, hard to eradicate weed.
Scotch Thistle.. My renter let it go next door and all those seeds floated over here...
French Broom.. All over these hills.. The seeds are viable for over 70 years.
The surest sign that intelligent life exists elsewhere in the universe is that it has never tried to contact us.

Ok, another weed that's as bad as Bermuda is nutsedge (Cyperus esculentus or Cyperus rotundus) . Just looked it up and roundup will not kill it. One expert said to dig 6 inches all around it and dispose the soil also to get all the nuts. Another expert said to dig 18 inches down to get the nuts and the nuts are pretty much invisible. i wonder if a flamer would work. .....I wonder if a flamer would work to sanitize to soil where rot occurred? Might have to try that.
It raining again and very windy here.

Bull thistles are a pain, but not as bad as their Canadian brothers. Rolling on the floor laughing

In general, I hate dandelions. Not too fond of grass in that I have to mow it too much (and therefore it takes away from my iris tending) and that it takes up space that might better used for flowers and/or veggies!

Oh -- another one that I hate is Wild Onion! Hard to get rid of because every bulb produces many many many little baby bulbs -- and if you dig up the parent, you're gonna miss a few of those babies. And they are vigorous growers! On another note -- when you're mowing the grass (oh yes -- they grow in the lawn too) -- the air is redolent with the fragrance of onions!!

Forgot about them onions. They do smell GOOD when you mow them, but the look crappy early in the Spring time.

I think they smell good too when you mow them. They don't get much of an opportunity to hang out in my yard before the grass needs it's first cutting. Which is fortunate for their control, but unfortunate for me because I have to keep mowing most of the year.

I remember when the cows would get into the wild onions, the milk would taste like onions. Hilarious!
