Only one this morning to start us off with the letter "F"....

Foliage color, most often when we think of foliage it is in relation to foliage habit, evergreen, semi-evergreen and dormant, or disease, rust, leaf steak etc. A few daylilies have variegated foliage with stripes of green and white or green and yellow.

Two threads that talk more about variegation...
The thread "Is there such a thing as a variegated daylily?" in Daylilies forum

The thread "Foliage variation" in Daylilies forum

What about shades of green and blue ? Hostas showing deep green and blue..

My "F" term for today will be "FFO" a term I saw people use a lot and took me a while to figure out what it meant:
"FFO:
Date of the "first flower open" or first flower to bloom, of a given cultivar. These furnish coarse bloom sequence and bloom period indicators in a specific locality."

Flowering season! We have a problem with gall midge on the early bloomers so I won't plant them unless they re-bloom. Outrageous is the worst for me, not one scape unaffected and so far no re-bloom scapes. It will go on the compost heap this year!

Late bloomers or re-bloomers are such a wonderful sight after the majority have finished for the year.

Egyptian Queen - an early bloomer that will be staying
Thumb of 2015-02-10/Halfprice/fade9d

Lighthearted Spin - another early but has never been affected by gall midge, definitely a favourite

Yellow Angel - goes on till the first heavy frost

Longfields Beauty - not listed as late but like YA goes on and on

Fragrance was my first thought and FFO my second! It is so exciting to get FFO's on daylilies purchase the previous year. I have several daylilies purchased last summer that I will see FFO's on this year. Can't wait!! Smiling Big Grin Drooling

We have loads of frogs but I've never seen one on a daylily! We will be getting frog spawn in the pond soon now it's thawed, I'll watch to see if the little froglets climb on the daylilies by the pond.

Frogs - that's a good one!

We live on a creek, and there are frogs, or toads, or something that live on the banks. (Even if I got a good look, I'm not sure that I could tell the difference; our native critters here are tiny things (with incredibly loud voices) which blend in amazingly well.)

Last year I had two plastic boxes holding tree pots with daylily seedlings. Now, these boxes were on my patio, probably 60 feet minimum away from the creek banks (and another 10-12 feet down to the creek), but I was surprised to find a small frog or toad down in between the tree pots! I am not sure how it got there or what it was doing down there... looking for snails or slugs? Confused
