Another amaryllis blooming out of season. It isn't quite open yet but I decided to take the picture now before the heat fries it.

Kelli--it is so neat that you have had so many amaryllis flowers this summer--crazy!
"Where summer is winter" Hilarious!
I always took that to mean the hot and dry barrenness of your summers being akin somehow to the barrenness of the deep freeze, but maybe your amaryllis read that and thought they needed to force themselves to bloom for your summer-winter Hilarious!
Okay, probably not. And it's probably only funny to me Whistling
Well if you ever do figure out what prompted all these out of season flowers, please let us know

I had some random blooms from my potted amaryllises on the porch this summer. Not sure what prompted that, but it was a pleasant surprise.

When we moved into our house in March, the neighbor had Amaryllises planted around the two rather small trees in the front yard. They bloomed during the next few weeks and were very pretty. Pink & white variety. I was very surprised when they started blooming again a couple of weeks ago! These blooms seem to be smaller than the spring blooms.

I picked up some Abyssinian Glads (Gladiolus murielae) at one of the BB stores in 2013 and they did great. Last year and this only one bulb bloomed! Has anyone else experienced this? I shared these with two people last year so I'm pretty embarrassed.

Did you dig them and store them indoors for winter? They don't survive winter in the ground here, but I've never had the presence of mind to dig them up in fall...

Yes, they're very easy to store and very prolific. Last year I thought the lack of bloom might have been due to some chemical treatment. They're so cheap I may just pick some more up next Spring.

I have freesias coming up. They won't bloom until circa February, though. It's good to finally see a sign of fall since the temperature isn't showing any sign of it.

I finally managed to order a couple of Autumn Crocus (Colchicum 'Waterlily') bulbs this year ...before the dreaded out-of-stock notices appeared. They were shipped here, oh, maybe 5 weeks or so ago. Since they came from a sometimes questionable vendor I potted them in compost and hoped for the best.

I noticed a bloom surfacing yesterday! Hurray!

I should probably transplant these in-ground before it freezes...right?

That's right, go ahead and get them planted this fall. They will root in and will have a rosette of glossy foliage in spring. Waterlily is such a pretty one, and on my list to acquire some day.
