Yes they do love oranges. My neighbor cuts oranges in half and lays them cut side up on top of her pump house and the birds love it!

Linda - I believe that pair to be a male & female Northern Oriole (Icterus galbula) and also known as "Baltimore Oriole" or "Bullock's Oriole".
The female (2nd) has the white wing bars.....and the male has the solid black head.....wonderful Halloween colors! Thumbs up

Thanks, Lee! They sure are pretty! We aren't in the range maps for that species...but I think I know what they're doing...they're migrating! Must be really hard for birds to find food and water (in this case, nectar) when migrating over Texas. Texas is just one big disaster. BTW, we just got a letter from the water company that operates the water system here. We are now in Stage 3 water restrictions. The RO for treating our water in this area is going out and has to be replaced...in the meantime, Stage 3 will be in place. Sad

There was a report that Edwards Aquifer (central and south Austin) is in critical stage and will be kicking off it's own emergency response pattern.

Just saw another oriole yesterday morning...haven't seen it since then, so it probably took off. I heard about a couple of other people in Texas who has orioles visiting now!

Tee, was it landed at this point or still fluttering? The wing type makes me think "moth" but insects are not one of my specialties. Of course, I'm also looking at the picture on a netbook with a tiny screen so I'm no help! Dale could probably tell you in 10 seconds if he made it over here.

Hi Carey -- It had landed.

I hated to go OT on this thread but thought I might catch some of you all who are more in the know about these moths and things over here. I apologize Linda. I did enjoy the pictures of your beautiful birds. I ♥ birds!

Oh, that's okay. It looks like a moth, but there are a number of small white moths it could be...can't figure out what one.

Thanks ... I didn't even know the moth was there until I saw the picture. I would have gotten it a little more in focus (maybe) if I'd known.

Tee,.....it's kinda hard to tell for sure,.....but it looks like it might be a Snowy Geometer. The wings ragged edges indicate it might have had a rough ride through it's life.... but,...there are moths with normally ragged edges Another possible suspect is a White Spring Moth.
Subtle aspects....like the antennae.....can help with ID. Try to get a closer shot,...if you get another opportunity. Thumbs up
