We also introduce a new gallery option in our database for winter interest, with bonus acorns this week!

I am learning to appreciate things like seed pods and interesting bark and the things that you call winter interest. Except that where I am, so much of it is summer interest. The wild plants in particular go dormant in the summer so I have no wildflowers to photograph so instead I've gotten interested in photographing things like seed pods and interesting bark.

Here in the UK there is a lot to admire in winter. You can stand back and really appreciate the structure of the garden. And the sombre winter colour schemes are wonderful. I remember reading Rosemary Verey's excellent book The Garden In Winter many years ago.
It was rather different when I lived in Maine, but again, you have to appreciate the season as one of rest and preparation even when there's not a scrap of green to be seen. I understand New England has been hard hit this winter with several feet of snow within a short time. I have snowdrops here..
