Yes-- these are the things that drive me nuts, Leslie. Same thing with Crooked Little Smile. Like it's not hard enough to learn the designations without someone throwing us a curve!!!! Blinking

Winterberry has some nice information about all the different classifications.
http://www.winterberryirises.c...

If I understand it correctly a veriegata is a subset of a bicolor. It's specifically a bicolor that has yellow standards and either brown or maroon falls. In other words all veriegatas are bicolors, but not all bicolors are veriegatas

I think Mary Ann wants us to list the bicolors that are not considered veriegata, as I think she wants us to list them on a separate day. I'm not sure if the term veriegata is really used that much anymore. I may be wrong.

A Neglecta is a subset of a bitone. (falls and standards are different shades of the same color) Specifically it is a bitone with in the blue or purple colors. In other words all Neglectas are bitones. So all neglectas are bitones, but not all bitones are neglectas.

Hope I didn't confuse you.

OK -- here's one that has no designation in the Database. But based on it's color combination, I'm thinking it has to be a BiColor.

Yes Tom -- that's exactly right. I'm trying to limit us to specifics -- and I'm using the pattern descriptions in the Iris Forum on Cubits. And taking your description one step further (I think) Amoenas are also a subset of BiColors -- being BiColors with white standards. And that's another instance where all Amoennas are BiColors, but not all BicColors are Amoenas.

Interesting that Neglectas are a subset of BiTones -- I hadn't gotten that far in my understanding. Thanks for sharing that!!

Oh -- just a note on Terra del Fuoco -- a case could be made that this Iris is a BiTone. Brick Red could certainly be a tonal derivative of Dark Brown.

Are we going crazy yet???? Hilarious!

So you don't want amoenas which are bi-colors, but a certain set of them?
