Two years ago, I bought a tiny Christmas Cactus from the clearance table at Lowe's for 25 cents. It is now a beautiful medium sized plant and bloomed this past Christmas for the first time. It has lovely peach colored blooms. I know that some of these plants have red blooms, but what other colors are available? I'd love to trade cuttings with others who might have different colors! Also, I was told that cuttings can be rooted in water and my friend had success with this. Is this the best way?

Great job on your clearance plant! There are thousands of cultivars of the plant commonly sold as Christmas cactus. You can see some of them in the general entry on here:
Christmas Cactus (Schlumbergera truncata)
And/or look at the individual, named cultivars:

As a succulent, it's best to let cuttings callous (dry/heal) at least overnight before putting in water or soil. There's a huge contingent of believers in both methods. A google image search of "Christmas cactus propagation" should visually inspire you, and show lots of options.

I have a five-generation Christmas cactus, and I have taken many cuttings from it to share with friends and especially family members. First of all, is yours actually a Christmas cactus? Many mistake a Thanksgiving cactus for a Christmas cactus. Can you send a picture? Many stores lump them together and call them a "holiday cactus." I have had decent luck with propagation. You can either cut or simply twist a small part of a healthy branch at a segment joint, at least four segments or so in length, ( can be shorter for the Thanksgiving cactus) and either put the cutting in water or let it sit out for some about a week or so and then put it in soil, or you can put it directly in soil. I've had both successes and failures with all three methods, so take a decent amount of cuttings and plan to lose some and be successful with some. I'd be happy to share some cuttings with you once the weather warms up. Mine has pink blossoms. I'll try to send a picture once I can figure out the technology to do so. Even if yours is a Thanksgiving or even an Easter cactus, they should propagate the same as I described above.

Good luck!

My plant is doing greaat...it has doubled in size over the winter. I took from it, more to simply even out the shape of the plant than anything. I just plopped all three into a small glass of water and they rooted beautifully. I'vvvvvvve got them potted up now and they seem to be doing very well.
it was so sweet of you to remember! Thankyou!

The plant I have has lovely peach colored flowers; I'd love to trade for other colors if anyone is interested?
