Wow! Great frog pics! Love 'em!
Dave, "Do you fertilize your fields of corn, shoe? Around here it's pretty much impossible to grow any quantity of corn without putting down something like 13-13-13."
Yep. For a long time I only used alfalfa pellets (horse feed) and ground phosphate rock. It did a decent job most years. But I also tend to spray fish emulsion a few times when I remember. At another garden spot I used to do those folks were under my "transitional" program, fancy way to say they preferred to use organically accepted pest control but still liked to use the chemical ferts in the soil (plus organic amendments/plant matter/manure, etc). Out there I'd use 10-20-20 which seemed to do much better than the 10-10-10 they used for years before.
Now, as for "fields of corn", I don't have a big place. I used to put in about 12 rows of corn approx 65 to 125 ft long each (at the garden north of town). This year I wasn't going to plant corn at all (had a tractor accident) but the second week of June I decided why not just do a small patch and put in 3 rows (50 ft or so long) then another 3 rows (same length) in an area of garden I hadn't planted much in. So, that's my corn patch this year. Plenty for us, plenty to share with friends, plus hopefully a few bags to freeze.
Oh yeh, and lots of leaves to share w/the frogs! :>)
