I remember when Silver Queen was introduced in the 60's. It was our absolute favorite up until we had Shoe's Kandy Korn which is by far the sweetest sweet corn I've ever eaten.

But Shoe is 3 hours away so we don't always get to enjoy his bounty and another that we're enjoying in the past two years is peaches 'n cream. It's really good.

Same here Polly, I love the fragrance of going to all the produce stands this time of year. Yum!

My favorite summer supper is fresh green beans, corn on the cob, cucumbers and onions, sliced tomatoes, with cantelope for dessert. It just doesn't get any better than that, huh??

Cool!

The guys say:

Curly: "Ribbit."
Moe: "Ribbit-ribbit?"
Larry: "Croooaaaak."
Alphonse: "RIBBIT!!"

With so many garden critters eating more of my plants than I do, I LOVE meeting some that eat bugs.

I'm still a little freaked out that I see fewer than one frog per year on average, but these guys were lined up like sardines in a can. As if they were sending a message or trying to get my attention, like a science fiction story.

I love the frog pictures. I thought I was going to get one to post. Went out to run some cool water in the fish pond and they where sitting so pretty on the plant leaves went to get camera and they where gone. I've always been a fan of silver queen corn too until I had Shoe's candy corn it's the best nobody around here grows it.

Howdy, Mystic! Nice to see ya...

And what a cutie pie grand daughter you have there!

Glad to hear you still have that pond going. Let some tadpoles take up residence and you'll have plenty of frogs to take pics of. Yay!

After my own heart, eh, Weeds!?

Yes, Bush's Great Northern Whites cooked with "country style pork ribs" from the meat man, seasoned to perfection. Yumm! Ain't nuttin' better for ya!

Now as for toads and frogs...Charleen, I like toads, too. I had a pet toad once, named Buford. (Course now, I name a lot of animals Buford, it's befitting, ya know). Why, I'm here to tell ya, that Buford toad always smiled from ear to ear. I think. I always looked to see where his ears were, never found them.

I like frogs and toads too ... well, except for this invasive Cuban Tree Frog. These critters are big for tree frogs and eat our native little frogs, lizards etc. This one took up residence in a birdhouse on the deck back in 2007 ... then I found another one in a hanging basket.

>> Bush's are much better!

Do you mean the commercial, canned Bush's Baked Beans? I used to like them, even considerd them competition for B&M New England Baked Beans. And I grew up on the Soiuth Shore of beantown (Bahhhstin), so "as good as B&M" is high praise.

Then I got 3 cans in a row of lame, feeble, bland, wussy awfull baked beans from Bush's that might as well have been Cambell's Yuck. Honest, it was a much worse than "New Coke".

I always add garlic, pepper, chili powder, onion flakes etc, but they barely helped this lame version of Bush's.

If they're still good where you are, I can hope this is some regional experiment to see if the PNW will buy awfull stuff at the same price as "good".

Maybe a new title for the thread: "Frogs & Beans".

Then move it to a new "Recipe" forum.

"Do you mean the commercial, canned Bush's Baked Beans"

Corey, no true blue 'pork and beans' lover would dare used "baked beans". But I hear ya! I seldom (if ever) buy canned baked beans, usually only eat baked beans at potluck gatherings, never make them for myself.

For the best pork and beans use white beans, a.k.a. "northern whites". Bush's offers just that with no additional seasonings such as "pork flavoring" etc.

Pick up some real meat, Southern Style pork ribs, which is boneless rib meat. Delish.

I'll send you a bowl!

>> Corey, no true blue 'pork and beans' lover would dare used "baked beans".

Understood! I've probably never had "real pork and beans" like that. The closest might be when I made Navy Bean Soup (when I was between jobs for some years).

To a Boston Boy, "beans" means "baked beans - baked slowly in molasses". Adding anything but pork fat may be sacriledge, but I've been known to do it ... since I moved out of Massachusetts.

Whatever food I grew up with seems The One True Way to cook that.

It took me literally decades to admit that any place other than greasy shacks on Cape Cod could possibly have "real" fried clams. It took Legal Seafoods in Baaaaahstin to convince me that "real fried clams" were possible anywhere else.

(That was back when Legal Seafoods had sawdust on the floor, styrofoam plates, menu on a blackboard, plastic cutlery, menu on a blackboard, bring-your-own-beer, long tables where diners sat in rows, and at least one truck with fresh-caught fish would drive up in the course of any meal. Prices were 1/5th what they are now! College-stricken poverty students could afford to go there. Now it's china and crystal and see the loan officer before sitting down.)

I seem to be guilty of thread drift yet again ...
