Some of my stalks have been tall, too, and some of those have ended up flopping. Other irises seem to be about the same height.
Evaluating an iris seedling, hopefully for rebloom

My stalks this year have been taller than usual, which is a mixed blessing. I fertilized three times last year - maybe that's why they are taller? Or maybe because we got a lot of rain between January and the end of March? Some of the floppy ones were planted last year and maybe their root structure wasn't as deep and strong as the longer established plants. I don't know. Thinking

Good point about last-year planting....Some of mine that I divided and repotted late last summer/early fall, including MAGNIFICENT MASTERPIECE, are the ones that are egregiously flopping.

Walked around the garden looking at what is blooming before Church.
Going out to do much needed weeding shortly.

Interesting about the stalks. Many of mine seem on the shorter side this year, but there are many more blooms than the last few years.

Most of my stalks have been in the 22"-34" in height. Most of them on the shorter side.

Then, I have a few overperformers with stalks above 4'.
Does anyone know how to stop spending money on flowers?

I'll take more blooms over taller stalks any time.

Some of the TB stalks are showing signs of being weather affected here, guess those late days of temps in the 20's messed some of them up. The dwarfs don't seem to be affected much though.

Two new blooms.
Glad to see Wings at Dawn. It has blossomed much earlier. This late bloom, I thought I had lost it

And the White. Another lost and found. Javelina destroyed the white that bloomed last year. Now this second clump bloomed Whiter than White. Yay!

Nothing in the iris garden; I didn't even set foot outside today because my wrist was hurting so much (from doing the doc's exercises) and ditto my weaker knee was hurting (so I was not trusting it on steps today). From the house I can see more irises in bloom, but no positive ID without looking at the labels. Rolling my eyes. MUSICALITY does look like it should pop any day now, though.

I sent DH out solo to the kitchen garden to start soil prep work on the tomato beds (weeding, amendments). Next we have to find and reinstall the tomato cages (which my garden helper removed in order to dig out the redwood roots, again). D'Oh! Then we can finally plant.

The last time I de-rooted those beds was maybe 5 years ago... at that point, it made more sense to just pay for the extra work, whether I could still do it or not (the last few years as the knees went downhill, definitely not).

I'll micromanage DH through the planting and care, but he's claiming that gives HIM sole rights to the tomatoes. Rolling my eyes.

Rained last night, so everything is too wet for weeding. I have more irises blooming.

I had to mow grass again, I hate losing time weeding when I have to mow.

Hilarious!
May they produce so many tomatoes that he can't possibly eat them all!

Oh, he makes a wonderful gazpacho, which we'll enjoy in addition to fresh tomatoes. So the tomatoes will get used, but as Garden Director I WILL claim my share!

SERGEY and MUSICALITY (on an incredibly tall stalk) joined the bloom parade today, and BLOODLINE and a couple others have also been in bloom. I haven't been out since the wrist was really hurting today, but that's what I see from inside. (I may have overdone the exercises which I have been doing at home. Sighing! My preferred PT got back to me but won't take my current insurance Glare , so now I have to get set up with another group. Grumbling At least my tailbone feels better.)

Glad your tailbone is feeling better.

As if being in pain and incapacitated isn't enough, you have to deal with the insurance bureaucracy! Grumbling

I'm happy to hear your tailbone pain is resolving, Marilyn. I can't recall if I told you about Arnica Montana cream or gel for healing. A reputable brand is "Arnicare". I used it for my hand and for my foot, and I still use it when my fibromyalgia flares up. It reduces pain AND speeds up healing.

I got to do some weeding today, slow going in this bed, it's infested with sheep sorrel, and that stuff is hard to get rid of. Lots of rhizomes you have to get out. I also got my peonies tied up. Some are so nice and don't need it, and others just flop over if you don't tie them up.
