If I am well enough, I would like to come to the RU. We can bring food, tea, but don't have much in the way of plants, as most everything got wiped out. I may try to start some seeds.

If anyone has cuttings of Hardy Hibiscus in every color and anything else that can take a freeze I would be interested!! (Gingers also)

Hi Jeanne!
We have a separate thread for the Round Up now. I will be happy to go there and include you, but for more information you'll need to check it out and post there if you have any questions or whatever.... Lots more information over there for you. :-)

http://cubits.org/TexasGardeni...

I hope you'll be able to come - I look forward to meeting you. Don't worry about the plants. I'm playing a "wait and see" game myself.

Hi, dgal--- it's a small world... We went to Baytown years ago because one of our boys was in a Karate tournament there, but other than that, I don't know much about Baytown, except it's warm & humid, like Corpus! Good to see you here. =) We keep having these light-freezes in the early morning this week; I hope my plumerias' little roots aren't getting frozen, since I put them Out last week, thinking freezes would be over.

My DW & I use to live in Corpus back in the early 80's when the Oilfield Machine ground to a halt.....I dearly loved being there.......each day reminded me of my childhood summers' special "trips during the break of school".....we would go to Port Isabel for a week or so....during the whole time...breathing that intoxicating salt air ....laced with the aroma of the sea and salt grass.....just experiencing the beauty of the environment.....the fascinating wildlife....on land and above & below the water. ....back then.......(mid to late 50's)... the fishing was spectacular....fish, shrimp, crabs abundant.....the weather was relatively stable....the air was still fresh....and everything seemed unlimited. Up & down the coast from Houston during my childhood into teens

Corpus Christi...Port Aransas,...Rockport...on up the coast....Port Lavaca,....Matagorda ,..Sargent,... Mouth of the San Bernard (every month at least once) Of course,...nearer to Houston,...from Freeport, San Luis Pass....Galveston, Bolivar on up to Sabine Pass....many days & nights soakin' up Mama Nature....on the Gulf Coast.

I grew some awesome veggies when we lived in Corpus...I intend to return someday

I intended to comment,... Don,... that I visited Alice many times back then....workin' out of Corpus goin' to and from drilling rigs,,,as well as some of the Drilling Companies headquarters being in Alice....I really like the ruggedness of South Texas....entirely different ecosystem than Southeast Texas (coast & inland). We have several friends/aquaintances in the Baytown-Dayton-Liberty area. In MHO ....great area for gardening too! Thumbs up

LOL, you're making me homesick, Lee. I've done many things related to the oilfield; roustabout gang (Champlin), logging & perforating (Thor-Jet), Making drill collars (Drilco), gauger/lease operator (Hewett & Dougherty), gas plant / refinery operator (Exxon). About the only thing I didn't do is roughnecking, but still spent time on the rigs while logging & perforating. I liked going offshore. Man was the food good!

You're right about the ruggedness. Of course, it really gets rugged just west of Alice, over toward Freer. I worked cattle off of a horse some over there. My BIL and his buddy were about the best head & heelers I ever saw.

Lee, sounds like you should sign up for one of those deep-sea fishing trips, or at least head to the beach or bay for some fresh salt air--- it still smells that way, ya know!
Don, you said you worked for Champlin--- you mean Oil Co., right? My husband, John, worked for Champlin Refinery, before it was bought out by Citgo; He is a maintenance electrician out there. He is hoping to retire in a few years.
Yea! Today I see the Sun! It rained all day yesterday, so we have had enough already. Maybe we can do something outside in the yard, although it is muddy. Have a good weekend everyone!

Connie, Yes, Champlin Oil Co. I worked in the field out of Bishop. In fact, I spent part of my childhood living in a company camp there. Actually, it is sort of between Bishop, Banquete and Agua Dulce.

My dad worked in the plant there for thirty years until he retired sometime in the early 80's I think. I am assuming your hubby works out of the refinery there in CC.
