I just got in three Earthboxes, and they are my first. They are now all planted with garlic, 14-16 per box. I don't expect much from these cloves, but I had to see what would happen when planting garlic this time of year. I have been told I would be wasting my time and they wouldn't do much. I love to experiment, love a challenge, and love to prove people wrong. Whistling I am using the black-side out for April and will reverse it to the white-side out in May.

So you can plant tulip bulbs in spring--just have to wait till next year. Good to know. That cauliflower looks wonderful, and the tomatoes look cozy.

I have teeny lettuce sprouts out there!

I saw earthboxes at Mill and Feed yesterday. Looks interesting. I have seen instructions on how to build your own but after watching it I decided it was too much bother. But I can't justify spending any more money on gardening. Will just have to soldier on with what I have. They do look neat though.

Last year I saw the earthboxes on sale for 10$ each at home depot, they were the small ones, sadly I didn't grab any. If i see it again this year I'm going to grab a bunch.

No, tulips need a chill factor. But if one had forgotten to plant the bulbs which sat around in an unheated garage then they should or might grow if planted in spring. But really all those types of bulbs like Tulips, daffodils, crocus and such need to be planted in the fall.

Good luck, Ken. I hope that garlic exceeds all expectations. Keep us posted!

We had a hard frost here over the weekend. Didn't think much about it with my broccoli and cabbage because they can withstand freezes. Guess it got too cold for them b/c most of their leaves are burnt. Seems like most of the baby leaves look good. Should I pinch off the burnt leaves? I've been somewhat nervous about pinching them off because that's most of the plants leaves. They only have about 4-6 leaves each so pinching off 4 and only leaving 2 little leaves eek.

Still, none of my peppers have germinated. Most everything else except for lovage have and I'm pretty sure lovage takes forever. Turns out my plant heat matt hasnt been working whatsoever this whole time, I grabbed a different one this week and put a heat bulb on them as well. Too late for them to come up, or if I'll need to just buy plants this year? I doubt I'll have time now to restart from seed for this year. Shrug!

SCurtis, when did you plant those pepper seeds? What has the temp been where they're at? They do take longer, compared to, say, tomatoes, but it seems they should probably be starting to poke up for you by now. I'd probably leave them and give them a bit more time, but might need to think about buying some plants this year... the good news is that pepper plants are readily available, although not always the varieties you were hoping to grow. Rolling my eyes.

Thanks Sandy, I'd say they've been growing at about 67ish, which is too cold. Didn't know their heating mat wasn't working. Sadly I bought a lot of cool pepper seeds this year. I guess lowes plants are better than no plants! Still have my fingers crossed that now that they have more heat a few will come up.

I'd still go for it SCurtis because one year when I planted my peppers out they were barely 4" tall and they caught up. So even if yours are later, I'd go for it, especially since you planted some cool varieties.

We had hail Tuesday afternoon and it did a number on our garden. We were planning on going to market this Saturday with lettuce but it completely broke it down so we have to delay going to market one week. It should recover but what a mess! And the cauliflower, broccoli and cabbage the same thing.

Thanks, Ken. It's so discouraging. We are seriously rethinking doing market this year. Problem is I have to go to sell some tomato plants cause there's no way I can use all I grew. So maybe we'll sell some lettuce and tomato plants and then call it quits. I'll just have to wait and see how it plays out but I would really love having the extra time for me if we don't do market!

I would/could do market for my garlic, but since I sell more than I have *Blush* as it is, there is simply no reason for me to do so.

No early veggie sprouts here yet, although I am seeing a few self-sown flower sprouts. Maybe soon...

Garlic is up about 6"...what an easy plant to grow! Walking Onions are taking off as well...they're also very care-free. It's so nice to see these up and green and growing while waiting on the weather to be right for the others!

Arlene -- so sorry to hear about the hailstorm! They've messed with my garden quite a few times, and have always made me thankful to not be trying to make my living at growing stuff!

Ken -- you would definitely need to expand your operation if your wanted to sell your garlic at market, you always run out as it is!

SCurtis -- definitely give those pepper seeds a little more time under warmer conditions... I've often had peppers self-sow even up here, once things really warmed up! (And once the weather is right, small plants seem to catch up to bigger ones anyway.)
