Elaine,

I estimate that I will have to drive this one for judging when the time comes. I'd like to get a culture award for it, but I need at least 20 more flowers. I'm thinking a couple more years and it will be ready... Thumbs up

Ursula, lovely start to the April thread! Your Cattleya lawrenceana is absolutely beautiful. Thumbs up

Elaine, your Phaius are looking great!

Melissa, you did good with the baggie bloomer. Good growing! My other favorite is Den. amethystoglossum and its beautiful flowers.

From the OC today, Zgt. Midnight Blue 'Cardinal's Roost' (Pes. violacea x Z. B. G. White). This is a second year plant for me and I'm liking it.

Species Den. primulinum is looking good.

Sorry, but I just can't resist posting more pictures of my new Paph. bellatulum 'Red Bella' X Paph. Pacific Fire:

I could look at that Paph every day, Jim. Nothing wrong with posting more pictures.

I do just love the Den. primulinum though, they remind me of little angels with frilly skirts and pink wings.

According to the lady on DG, my orchids are all "ordinary", so here's my ordinary Den. Aphrodite x Den. Golden Aya. She continues to open flowers daily and the flowers now have a very light fragrance. She's in a 5" diameter, mesh-pot. All her younger sisters are loaded with bulbs but not in flower yet.

Thank you, Ursula. To me at least, perfect/rare or not, all blooming orchids have beauty. I am pretty simple and delight in simple pleasures. Sighing!

Ken,

There is nothing ordinary about any orchid blooms. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. T

This is what Grumbling ss me off about some orchid people (on other online sites). Having a snooty/haughty opinion only pushes people away.

Good growing is good growing. Nice blooms for the size of your plant! Be sure to feed it. It took a lot of energy to make those big blooms! Thumbs up

Dendrobium Nestor is now fully open and did I say the Raspberry scent is lovely? The nice sunshine helps! Smiling

Most people like 'ordinary' orchids just as well (if not better) than rare ones. In fact the reason some orchids are rare is probably because they are temperamental divas, hard to grow and never bloom. Sort of like you-know-who!

That one is just gorgeous, Ken. My Dens are all finished, except my little Andree Millar, which seems to keep its cute little blooms for ever. The last of them is looking pretty ratty now, but strangely enough, the flower thrips don't touch them.

Yikes, thrips. Are Den. prone to thrips?

My other Dens did get damage to the flowers, Ken. Next time I have buds I'm going to treat beforehand with the Spinosad as Jim suggested.
