Looks like a good place for those Calla Lilies. I have no luck growing Callas. After several different tries, I finally gave up. You seem to offer the right growing conditions, Lee-Roy! I can't wait to see photos of them in full bloom!

Why did you give up? I don't know what perfect conditions are either; and mine are far from perfect :S I'll say it again: thick, fat, light colored clay with little organic matter (I did add a bag before planting now). Besides that, they're in full sun and I'll be mulching coming week.
I hear ya. A huge expense to amend the soil but I have been composting over the past 3 years. We also have root knot nematodes which I fear go after and destroy the roots of Calla lilies.

Just spent the last 45 minutes reading through this entire thread and all I can say is "WOW!"
I am extremely impressed with all you have done and look forward to reading more.
Thank you for sharing the journey.
This week has been the nicest this year so far: alot of sunshine and mild to warm temps (20° today!) and no rain. And it shows in the garden aswell. Plants shoot up from dormancy or those who've already done so are flowering (like my Carex, which is quite beautiful; I always disliked the look of their flowers in photos). Every day that it's sunny and warm enough I drag out my growing bulbs (and citrus sapling) which enjoy the midday sun.
Examples of plants two weeks ago, much bigger now.
My P. multiflorums are also showing their noses much to my relief, they were late compared to the other plants. Although the ones in the back of the garden show no life at all and they receive sun most of day so the ground should be warmer.
Also no sign yet of the three L. martagon bulbs I planted in the fall, nor of the Epipactis :S
My attempt at propagating Ajuga reptans from runners:
Don't you just love Spring! Best time of the year, I have to agree!
When you get everything planted, please take a distant photo so we can see the entire landscape. I know it is going to look fabulous! And even more so as the weather continues to warm up and plants bloom!

Hey everyone, how y'all doing? Here's once again an update on things; a little earlier than usual.
One of my 3 Lilium martagons has finally popped up. Wonder if the other two will show too.
And today I went shopping and did a revamp of one of my borders. The weather has finally turned for the better with this week temps well over 20 to near 30! A gift since last month was so horrible.
This is the picture I've had in my mind for months regarding planting scheme (more or less; I still wanted some heart's tongue ferns and a hosta in, but I didn't find the variety I wanted)
Including: 3 new box balls of different size, 8 Carex m 'Irish Green', 6 Rumex sanguineus, 3 Iris s 'White Queen' and 3 I.s 'Blue king'
Took out most of the grasses and replaced them. Whoever said grasses root shallow!?!?!
Wow! Check out all the growth on most of those plants! It looks far better than what I imagined it would. White blooms with that beautiful green foliage ..... dynamite!!!

Yeah it's coming along nicely. And though I love the combinations I made in the top most bed, the Pennisetum is too large at the point, it's suffocating everything around it. So either I need to kick it out and find a replacement grass or go for the dwarf variety.
And I didn't expect my Agapanthus to bloom this year already. They combine nicely with the Pennisetum, but yet again I miscalculated the amount of space each specimen needs, so next year I'll be relocating yet again lol
