I can hardly type through the tears, I had no idea she has been so ill. One of the kindest, most generous human beings on this planet has left us.

I too got several plants from her over the years. I was not the best steward of them (they were beardless and my focus was elsewhere). The Winter of 13/14 knocked off all but one. That last plant did not make it through this Winter. Some kind of weird sign? I too was unaware of how sick she was. I knew she was less "visable" the last few years, but I did not have any clue. God bless.

I first "met" Polly back in the DG days, when I received a message from her out of the blue asking if I would mind if she sent me extra lily bulbs she had. We had never conversed, but she had seen my posts on the Lily forum. We became fast friends, and from time to time she would surprise me with a box of amazing plants, and rarely wanted anything in return. Finally she expressed interest in Lent Lily daffodils, and you would have thought I'd sent her a box of gold nuggets.

JoAnn, please let Russ know how loved she was, and how sadly missed she will be (and has been in her absence lately).

Thanks Neal, my experience with Polly was about the same.It started on DG when I was new.
I had posted pix of the new garden areas and she asked if I wanted plants, sent a list of 20. I was overwhelmed but said yes, so she said how many of each. That was a game changer.
Later that winter she wrote that she had a local job and was ordering plants for it ,would I help her choose some astilbes from the list plus some pink lilies. I also sent collages of the plants as a color blend refrence.
I had been working on plant orders with her ever since, receiving more than I asked for.
The lilies are another story entirely.
Polly was a private person and very intelligent. I will miss her calls and chats. She lived about an hour and a half away so we would meet half way to exchange plants and have lunch.

I had a similar experience with her. Posted an interest in some plants and she sent a T-mail about the very plants I was looking for, box of plants came not long after. Tall garden Phlox is my Polly plant and always think of her when I see these plants in my garden. We have lost a beautiful person, hugs to everyone and her family.

I didn't know Polly, but she must have been a wonderful person from all the comments here.
I always think of people who shared plants with me, but who have died. Their memory lives on.

So many plants in my garden came from people who have passed. It makes them all the more special. Several noids I've renamed after the generous gardener who gave them to me.

I am so sorry to hear of Polly's passing. I also did not realize that she was battling cancer. She was such a kind and caring person.

So sad. Polly was such an interesting person, and yet so private. We shared career stories on the phone, and she said she preferred that people think of her in her iris grower role. Her obituary did mention her career as an investigator, along with her plant business.
Many of my Siberians came from Polly. She said she sent extras because she was scaling back the business and would probably close it. She said she wanted to spend time with family, and now I understand what she meant. Group hug
