I just grow the old fashioned tall red penta. I do take a couple of cuttings in late summer , and cover the main plant if we get a freeze in winter just in case.

Pentas are the one plant I buy every year like clockwork, I put them among the lantana. The butterflies just love that lantana, and it grows like a weed. I get the red one.
It is so dry here, if we dont get some rain, I wont have a picture to share all summer. Blinking Im sure enjoying everyone elses tho.

We've had some regular thunderstorms here in the Tampa area. In fact, I heard thunder as I was typing. It really poured the other night. More than our regular thunderstorms that usually pass through fairly quickly. Not complaining, though! I need my passion vine to grow as fast as possible because I have massive amounts of caterpillars eating it! I also have to get out in the garden tomorrow and move some bromeliads that are going to fry if I don't get them out of full sun soon.

It rains downtown Tampa all the time but when I get home, not a drop of rain Grumbling . I won't mind some type of rain at all.

We got a nice bit of rain yesterday but nothing at all today. But . . . I did have a big event just a few minutes ago - I finally have caught the infamous Ninja Raccoon! This rascal has defeated my trap three times, but no more!

The Animal Control lady will not be pleased with me for calling her on Saturday , but . . he will be gone tomorrow. Hurray! Hurray! Hurray!

Ninja raccoon. Rolling on the floor laughing I'm off to try and get some work done in the garden. Or maybe just take the lawn chair and a cold beverage and enjoy looking at stuff. I have to alternate my work with rest - especially in this heat!

Work before 10 am, then the chair/cold beverage option, is my routine.
Today I'm braving the heat at the Redland Orchid Show. 60+ orchid vendors from around the world!!

Am working in my garden too! But got to tell everyone of my loot from HD last night. First time I've seen it there hen & chicks for $2.98 per quart so I bought 2.

And 1 of my 6 Singapore White finally gave me 2 blooms more on the way. It smells really, really good! I got 7 cuttings that were severely dehydrated in 2012, some i planted during dormant season some I waited till spring) all survived except 1 died last winter because of my neglect. Tried to give me blooms last year but they blasted but got multiple tips on some.

I'll wait for multiple blooms open up before posting in Plumeria 2015.

Oohh, me too, Mj. I'd really love to go to Redlands some time. But as you say, big trouble and the last thing I need is to buy any more expensive orchids! I'm sure you'll have a wonderful time, Hetty.

Lovely plumeria there, Gigi. I am a big fan of white flowers in general. So elegant.

Has anyone used fish fertilizer in Orchids, plumeria or other plants?

Redlands or any plant shows I can't go because I have no discipline. I will have to buy and 1 will not be enough. Have fun Hetty!

That's good to know Jean that it can be used for edibles, thanks. I will use it on my spinach, tomatoes and basil.

I always buy the super thrive but I have too many plants I need a cheaper variety. I this Alaskan fish fertilizer is big and it was only $7.99

I hope you don't mind the smell of it, Gigi. Even the "deodorized" version is pretty stinky in my opinion. Last time I used it I had raccoons and stray cats visiting every night for the next couple of weeks wondering where to find that delicious (gag) smelling seafood buffet. Maybe if you put it on right before a good heavy rain shower, or hose the plants well afterwards, the smell will mostly wash away?

I gave away my big bottle of Alaskan fish fert after one use, and the person I gave it to (who I did warn about the smell) said she did the same thing! I think it's a great organic fertilizer, but I think the only practical use for it is in greenhouses where you can keep all the critters away.

Btw, SuperThrive is not a fertilizer at all, it is mostly used as a rooting hormone, and there's very little research to support any benefits of its use.

Hetty, I think you have more self control than all of us combined! I would be shoving my credit card at random strangers, I'm sure. Rolling on the floor laughing

I never bought fish fertilizer, but when my brother cleans our aquarium I steer him toward certain plants. Figure it can't hurt! And my neighbor's cat ends up in my yard no matter what I do. Rolling my eyes.
