That Alstroemeria! The foliage looks almost black- love how the blooms contrast against it!

//my grand alstroemeria experiment isn't working out very well...I got them planted in our early hot and dry spring, then it snowed huge and smashed them all, then we've had nice cool weather and unprecedented rains for weeks (grateful in the main, but some of my desert dwellers are not) and they are confused--still alive though, and sending up new shoots, so I remain hopeful

Got the frame of the coop painted, windows are getting an eggplant plum color, it all goes so nice with the garden colors. My bronze sambucus looks good against that green.

I bet you were happy seeing all those wonderful blooms on your early morning walk,..awesome sights to see!,..and your Chicken Coop is progressing and blending in well with the colors chosen,..curious question,..will you install perches and will you use sawdust on the floor or straw,..feathered friends do create a mess for us to clean out.

Philip, yes on the perches and we will be using construction grade builders sand in the run and most likely in the coop. We've been reading up on that and will see how it works. http://104homestead.com/sand-i...
We will also have a pull out tray we'll be placing under the roosts for easy clean-up.

Great link and information Sue,..you have covered your project to perfection,..in my own case i had no choice but to take what was there,..it was a Victorian Hen Coop where each hen had a nest made of red brick three nests high and a cement floor,..i did erect perches and used sawdust on the floor or straw when available which came in handy for my manure heap and Veg garden,..i always was fascinated to find all the hens sleeping and snoring lol.

Beautiful setting Philip, all the wonderful historic stone walls really add to the charm.

The house is about 300 years old and used to be owned by Lord Sterling,..everything is now as it was back then,..there is a well inside the house some 30 foot deep it was there so nobody could add something harmful to his health.

That was my bedroom window,..the big one in the first picture,..the duck house is on the left,..the hen house is at the far end of the second picture,..i loved living there but the house i now live in became available so i jumped at the chance.

The Quail are adorable. All pix are fantastic. Cant wait to see the chickens.
