Hi folks! I don't grow Adeniums but I visited Selby Gardens in Sarasota today and they had a nice grouped display of them. I added some to the plant database but not all of them were listed. So I wanted to show them to you anyway. If one of you guys want to take the initiative to add them to the plant database, feel free! I've never added a plant and I don't want to add one I'm not that familiar with. Now, let's get to the pictures!

Adenium 'Harry Potter'. This one was in the database.

Thumb of 2015-04-30/mellielong/d2bd08

This one was, too but Selby uses the synonym Adenium arabicum.

This one wasn't in the database but from the name it sounds like someone was playing with the pollen! Or however you make new ones of these things. This is Adenium obesum (#72 x 'Dark Red Edge'). Don't you want one now? Hilarious!

I couldn't find this one either and I think this may be my favorite. This is Adenium 'Taiwan Red'.

I couldn't find the rest of the ones I'm about to list. This is Adenium 'Chang Daeng'.

Thumb of 2015-04-30/mellielong/ee14c4

Adenium 'Chao Saow'

Thumb of 2015-05-01/mellielong/a8fd88 Thumb of 2015-05-01/mellielong/6d11a7

Adenium somalense 'Nova'

Thumb of 2015-05-01/mellielong/c7a62b Thumb of 2015-05-01/mellielong/e73fe0

I hope you all enjoyed the show. I think I like the red ones the best!

Wow!! Beautiful!! I'd never see anything like that at my stores Sad

I LOVE the "Harry Potter" and I think the "Nova" is awesome. Seems I tend to like the "pinkies" the best.

Thank You! for sharing!! Thumbs up
I hate losing plants....I know they are "just plants" but when you nurse them along and baby them and get them to grow, bloom, and be pretty and they die....it's like losing a friend..... Crying

I have the 'Taiwan Red'. Deep, intense red and LARGE red blooms, 3½" diameter. I also have seedlings from it, so I'm anxious to see how they turn out. @SCButtercup how are your seedlings doing?

The 'Red Taiwan' is one headed to the chopping block once it finishes this heavy flush of blooms (if no seed pods are developing). As it is, the stems tend to sag with the heavy weight of multiple blooms.

At first the seeds germinated well but then the stenms never were able to shed the seed casing and they eventually died. I'm not sure what happened, maybe because I didn't start the seeds immediately and they got old?

No. The seed casing is tough if dry. I was having the same issue the first time I sprouted Adenium seed. I lost a few before I realized the problem.

I moved the pot to a shady area, misted them well with chamomile tea, then covered with a glass dome to keep the humidity high.. By next morning, most had shed their (now soft) seed coat.

I did take a sharp toothpick and tease off a few others so I could get the seedlings back out into the sun. I didn't want to have to go through a hardening off process by leaving them in a greenhouse environment too long.

If you are getting rid of a DARK red don't use the chopping block, let me know what you want for it.

My bad. My plant was labeled as 'Red Taiwan', not 'Taiwan Red' as listed above by Melanie. Funny, because I always seem to refer to it in the reverse. It does look like the exact same plant.

Doris, not sure what you mean by DARK red. The color is not exactly dark, as in having blackish undertones, but it is a very intense, vivid, emphatic red. I posted a couple pics HERE when I had some seed available.

By "chopping block" I didn't mean to infer I was getting rid of it, just that it needs cutting back so it can be a sturdier, more heavily branched plant. When the time comes, I'm sure I won't need all the cuttings! Maybe we could arrange a trade. Much will depend on whether or not I can convince it to produce seed pods during this flush of bloom.

If you haven't done the pruning yet, consider air layering. A sure way to root the parts you want 'gone'.

Air layering DRs? That's the 1st time I heard that mentioned. Please tell us more, Melissa. I'm all ears!
