I have an Alocasia identical to that, never knew the ID. Same leaves and same colour pattern on the petiole. It's in a very large pot and has produced dozens of pups. The pot's totally overcrowded.

One of the toughest large Alocasia to try to grow.
I have had great luck growing them even w/ the GH.
Never had one come back from dormancy...... and they go dormant at a drop of a hat.
5° temperature drop in a night will do it.

Alocasia 'Stingray' is a MUCH better choice.
Pups like crazy, gets huge and is very easy to over-winter.
Does take a bit of heat to get going in the Spring though.

Sting Ray and Mohito are on my 2012 wish list. The Mohito's offered here in spring are pretty small and they almost looked like there was dirt on the foliage and I thought it really wasn't all that. Once I saw a big one I was sorry I passed it up.

Strike one, add another. Thanks for the warning Ric. Hey Zig, gotta photo? It's cold and windy and drab up here. Susan, my little Mojito start grew like gangbusters and had a few pups. I'd be happy to send one along.

I un-potted my smaller Z. aethiopica White Giant, the main stem died before I brought it in, but it had loads of pups. It formed a smallish tuber. I was told by the grower that it would take a few years to form a tuber/rhizome big enough to o/w.

I took this photo during my trip to Cebu Taoist Temple in the Philippines last August 2011:
Locally the leaves are called gabi or taro leaves, and are harvested more for the roots.

Nice EEar Tarev. I like the blue/grey petioles against that vibrant green. Do you know the genus? I've seen many of your fantastic succulent pictures. I hadn't realized how a big a transition in climate you had to make.

Zig, I completely forgot to say AMAZING. Are you able to wild collect on your various treks? Has Xanthosoma naturalized in PNG or is it native? BTW you look so neat and "out for a stroll in the garden" in the pic. I know people like you. I always look "disarrayed" under similar circumstance.

MY EE's are finally starting to break soil. A week of temps in the 90's giving me a jump start, hopefully they will be all leafed out by mid June this year instead of July. I ripped teacup apart to see if I could turn one into three. Mostly still looking at pots of soil.
