I just realized yesterday that none of my 'Burgudy Glow' ajuga came back this year. I should have stopped after two attempts, but I thought third time might be the charm. Shrug! I don't think I'll be trying this cultivar again anytime soon, although the location was at least partly to blame.

Chocolate Chip does well in raised areas here. It seems to prefer old compost mixed with sand, but it'll even grow on a piece of half-rotted wood if left undisturbed. Like a lot of early bloomers, it seems to prefer drier conditions after that first flush of growth and flowers.

Chocolate Chip ajuga has died 2-3 different times in different areas of my yard. But I love it so much that I got some more last year. It really is a cute plant. I'm hoping for the best!

Plain ajuga has survived much better for me.

Hm. I just realized Ajuga 'Black Scallop' hasn't come back this year. Glare

Those Ajuga didn't come back for me either. I thought they were perennials. Must have been a lie!

I'm so disappointed in all my hybrid tea roses. The lack of rain and heat has proven to be too much for them and they will be replaced with daylilies or what the deer seem to call scooby snacks Grumbling There were other disappointments this year with some of the less heat and drought tolerant plants but the roses where the worse.

That's a shame. Roses are so lovely but when the elements work against you, it's very difficult.

My Cornus canadensis is quite disapointing. To be expected though as it's standing in full sun while it's a woodland plant...Looking for a replacement, but haven't found anything yet.

Actually I had lots of disappointments this year. Not so much the plants but the growing conditions as well. What survived the rabbit invasion were pretty for a while but after we had some large amounts of rain fall in July everything seemed to go to pot. Already looking forward to next season.

My limelight didn't bloom this year, should I cut it back? Would that help? Calla lilies didn't show back up :(
A couple pricey daylilies. On a whole a pretty good growing season.

Just one plant rant today. I have two cultivars of betony: Hummelo and Pink Cotton Candy. Hummelo is fantastic, with nice vertical long blooming flower spikes. Pink Cotton Candy is a disaster. It flops terribly and has much poorer quality blooms.

I have hummelo as well and it has been a really solid plant for me - stands up well, blooms for a long time, easy to divide and share. Good to know that pink cotton candy is not as robust. (I likely would not ever have chosen that cultivar as I don't much care for pink and have never liked cotton candy, funny how names affect us.)

Good to know Jennifer. Maybe I will move some of it to see if it is happier in a different location.

LOL, ajuga is only invasive when you don't want it to be Hilarious! . When you want it to fill in a large area nicely you'll find you can barely get it to survive Rolling on the floor laughing

Isn't that the truth, Jennifer? I planted some with the hopes of a solid groundcover around my blueberries, but alas. Not sure what the try next.

Real Dream Daisy is going to the compost pile. Blooms look nice one day at the longest and not very nice that day either.

Dazzleberry Sedum has been a disappointment. Sunspakler Cherry Tart beats it by a long shot. Dazzleberry's flowers turn and ugly brown color very fast and it falls over about the time it starts blooming. That may partly be due to a larger amount of rain than normal this year.
Thumb of 2015-08-28/stilldew/9faf36

Blue Pearl sedum has pretty blooms but the stems are very brittle, break off easily and also want to lay down about bloom time.

Sure wish I didn't have to list this one as a disappointment. Second year in a row it has flopped. Blooms are wonderful but am getting rid of it.
