The weeds have taken over the world! Soooo much to do and no time to do it. Looks like near 90 degree weather tomorrow with "Heavy" rain starting early and going into Thursday. Just wonderful! Not!

My season is fast approaching "finished". I still have a few new iris opening, but mostly everything has gone by. My local Iris society show is this Saturday and I will have nothing to show. I will bring stuff for display, but nothing will be available for the show itself (competition).

I am up to 1080 stalks. I have somewhere less than 50 that need to be recorded; so I am guessing a total near 1150.

Good heavens. That is a whole lot more counting than I want to do. Have you also calculated the average number of blooms per stalk? At 5 per stalk that is 5750 blooms. A figure high enough to make your head explode if you try to picture that many blooms. And if even 25% are blooming at the same time that is a dizzying 1437.5 blooms!

Maybe that is why we are having so many irises this year with missing parts. They heard about the math and are trying to do the .5 bloom?

I "count stalks" until the first one blooms...............from then on, I'm way to busy to bother ! I don't even count the "wheelbarrow loads", when it's time to clean the beds off.

and, really, math isn't THAT bad Sticking tongue out .....I guess Shrug! .....I went to school to with plans of majoring in math, and maybe teaching, but, I had a chance for a free, government sponsored vacation..... Rolling my eyes.

I started counting stalks as a way of identification as my previous marker method was very flawed. This is the first year with 15" metal markers, so they did not heave and blow away in the Winter (some heaving went on, but certainly not blown away). So there is probably little need going forward to do this. Having said that, it is unlikely I will stop it. I have too many cultivars and have to "divide" at least 1/3 of my collection each year. Some cultivars grow into others, so tagging them assures me that I am getting the correct cultivar for potting purposes or sending off to a new home.

I had a good number of plants bloom wrong this year, but I expect that issue to disappear in the next two or three based on the markers. I can certainly tell the best growers from year to year using this method even though I am constantly moving stuff around.

I already did Greg, so will send you a new rhizome when it comes in July. Just was curious.
