I agree

And I've never seen anything quite like that whorled lily - looks like a shuriken!

Oh yes!
A flower on one of my aurelian crosses did that even more so, with all six tepals curved in the same direction. I know I took a pic, but heck if I can find it. I thought it might be worth breeding for, but the other two flowers on the same plant didn't curl so uniformly, and the next season they looked pretty normal.

It's like those cool martagon/tsingtauense crosses I showed on the Yahoo lilium group. I receive two offers to get them into tissue culture, but it's too early to know if that's warranted.

Karen, I agree that your lily looks like Black Beauty. So sorry to hear you lost so many lilies Meredith. Was it an extra cold winter?

We didn't have a winter any worse than ones they had survived through before. I think chipmunks ate them. They love the rock walls near the pool and we found little nests they made with the grasses right next to the spot. I had a Hardy Hibiscus not come back a few years back that I had planted there. I thought it was due to winter but I have others nearby that did fine. I think this spot is near their tunnels so they kill or eat anything there perhaps? I was thinking of putting some in a cage then I'll know for sure if they die it wasn't from rodents.

My 'White Henryi' doing it's annual sunrise pose this morning. It usually marks the end of the general lily blooming season around here. Basically, only those with the most Aurelian, L. henryi or L. rosthorni content remain. White Henryi had 10 of 13 buds open today. It's the only one I've had for years.

That's what B&D does with Tropical Isle. Thumbs up

Myself, personally, I like strains of cultivars planted in groups of 3 to 5 for a nice blended effect in mixed gardens. But when it comes to my work gardens, I got to have the clone if it's available.

Thank you for posting them, lilymanrob! It's winter down here and I manage my 'anxiety' for Liliums watching the pictures you and the other ATP members from the northern hemisphere post.

I don't grow many Orientals due to alkaline soil, but I couldn't resist picking up this new introduction. Upward facing flowers and mine are up to 180mm (a bit over 7 inches) wide as measured in the natural position. 43 inches high this year, with sturdy stems. First of the Orientals to flower here, even though it's spring planted. We'll see if that holds true in subsequent years.

Bought as Jaybird (which currently is the name in Europe). 5 bulbs for less than 6 Euro, which was a steal for such nice bulbs Green Grin!
