This arrangement has a little bit of everything. You name it - liatris, lilies, glads, lavender, dahlias

I just love to use the leaves of the bearded iris as a background to my centerpieces. This is just a few buttercups and day lilies.

Relax. It's only a small setback.

As promised- here's my Hodge Podge of just about everything in bloom in our putrid gardening season to date. Nothing 'major' except a hydrangea. Sorely lacking in dahlias for substance and more color Smiling I do love the spring green of the Lady's Mantle and hosta leaves in back, and yes I love the spear-like foliage of iris, crocosmia and similar plants for height.

Are you familiar with 'Louisiana Walking Iris?' They have wonderful spires of foliage and are 'walking' after getting them in a swap 10 years or more ago. But they don't do anything but foliage- no blooms.

That is splendid Annie. I am not familiar with the iris you mention. Sounds interesting. I find it interesting as well that your alliums are just now in bloom they do add a nice fill don't you think? Nice selection.

NO! I think the onion smell of allium is atrocious in a vase, but they are cute anchoring a spot out in the garden bed. I was so excited to get handsful of bulbs in a swap from G' web years ago. Now I know why the gal was so generous Big Grin

When did you allium bloom? We've had more of an extended winter than Spring or Summer until the past few days, so things are just getting busy popping out.

Mine bloomed back in April. I never noticed much smell to them, perhaps my nose is outta wack!

My nose is confirmed out of whack and they smell like onions. The bulbs and the stems are definitely onion-ish when first cut; the flowers smell only faintly of onion after a few days. They're cute so I'll forgive them their scent. They do make a cheerful little group showing early summer.
